You can’t keep the home fires burning in UK. The Home Fires TV show has been cancelled by ITV. Actor Daniel Ryan, who played Bryn Brindsley in the World War II era drama, broke the bad news on Twitter. His tweet reads: “So, it is with huge sadness I must tell you that #HomeFires has been cancelled. Awful to leave stories untold and lives incomplete. Sorry.”
Executive producer Catherine Oldfield also tweeted about the Home Fires cancellation, saying: “So very sorry that #Homefires won’t be back. We loved making the show & that it was well received by so many made it all the more special.” The Home Fires cast also includes: Samantha Bond, Francesca Annis, Ruth Gemmell, Claire Rushbrook, Ed Stoppard, Chris Coghill, Clare Calbraith, Fenella Woolgar, Mark Bazeley, and Mike Noble. Many of them have tweeted about the cancellation, too.
The second season of the Home Fires TV series is set during the summer of 1940. The village of Great Paxford is caught up in the the Battle of Britain. Two weeks after the defeat at Dunkirk, with the German army advancing through France, Britain braces itself for invasion.
Home Fires season two ended on a cliffhanger, with a plane nose-diving into a home in the village.

Radio Times reports ITV has confirmed it cancelled Home Fires. “An ITV spokesman said: ‘We are incredibly proud of what Home Fires has achieved, but the ITV commissioning team continues to refresh the channel’s drama portfolio, hence the decision not to commission a further new series’.”
The Radio Times poll currently shows 97% of respondents disagree with ITV’s decision to cancel Home Fires. Fans are petitioning ITV via Change.org, to recommission Home Fires for a third season. As of this writing, it has 7,463 signatures. In the US, the first season of Home Fires premiered on PBS in October, 2015.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Should the Home Fires TV show have been cancelled or renewed? Let us know, below.
I am in the U.S. and never missed a show. I love quality and this is definitely a quality show. PLEASE RECONSIDER. One of the reasons I donate to Public Broadcasting in the U.S. is to watch that the U.K. sends over to us. Downton Abbey, Home Fires, etc. Again, PLEASE RECONSIDER. I have become friends with all of these characters.
Please please please consider bring the show back for another season! Wonderful story, acting and drama!!
Please do not cancel this wonderful show with its wonderful history & superb cast. We have enjoyed every segment, especially after living in the UK for 4 years.
My husband and I enjoyed Home Fires so much and looked forward to following the ongoing stories of these characters. This is such an exceptionally fine cast. There is so much nasty junk on tv that I can’t imagine why a show with a positive outlook, historical setting, interesting characters, and fine writing should be cancelled. And to leave us all hanging with that last episode and so many unanswered questions is really a dirty trick! Please reconsider at least a third season for so many fans of Home Fires.
Also very disappointed that Home Fires has been cancelled. It is an excellent period show that provides insight into the struggles of the British during the WWII. The individual stories are compelling and diverse. And, we are left with so many stories unresolved. Please reconsider the decision to cancel.
I love this series and I would like to see it continue.
I sincerely hope that others will voice their opinions about this so that we can continue watching PBS series that don’t disappoint with an incomplete ending.
We were terribly disappointed that Season 3 of Home Fires was cancelled. I can not think of any reason why ITV would want to do this. They don’t seem to be in touch with their viewers at all. The story line was left up in the air, and the wonderful actors were cut off suddenly leaving the audience feeling cheated out of the type of ending that this excellent series deserved.
I’ve signed on Change.org. I am so bummed about this. There is little on tv that I watch, and this show has been a highlight for me. The higher ups of ITV are not being very informative of their reasoning for this, are they?
Everybody sign up on Change.org. Get all your friends and all your families to join in.

I have not read one logical reason as to why such a fine show was cancelled. Many others have noted that trash shows continue while this type entertainment is cancelled. Bewildered.
Very disappointing. This has been one of the better series we have watched.
I love Home Fires! This is such sad news!!! Please reconsider.. Just one more season to finish the story line….
I love Home Fires, so sorry to see such a good show canned when so much trash is broadcast season after season. Boo!
Is it more “important” to have trash shows (keeping up with whatever, so-called “comedies” that have a low level of intellect) than to have something that reflects the history of WWII? Please consider to bring this important aspect of history back –
