You can’t keep the home fires burning in UK. The Home Fires TV show has been cancelled by ITV. Actor Daniel Ryan, who played Bryn Brindsley in the World War II era drama, broke the bad news on Twitter. His tweet reads: “So, it is with huge sadness I must tell you that #HomeFires has been cancelled. Awful to leave stories untold and lives incomplete. Sorry.”
Executive producer Catherine Oldfield also tweeted about the Home Fires cancellation, saying: “So very sorry that #Homefires won’t be back. We loved making the show & that it was well received by so many made it all the more special.” The Home Fires cast also includes: Samantha Bond, Francesca Annis, Ruth Gemmell, Claire Rushbrook, Ed Stoppard, Chris Coghill, Clare Calbraith, Fenella Woolgar, Mark Bazeley, and Mike Noble. Many of them have tweeted about the cancellation, too.
The second season of the Home Fires TV series is set during the summer of 1940. The village of Great Paxford is caught up in the the Battle of Britain. Two weeks after the defeat at Dunkirk, with the German army advancing through France, Britain braces itself for invasion.
Home Fires season two ended on a cliffhanger, with a plane nose-diving into a home in the village.

Radio Times reports ITV has confirmed it cancelled Home Fires. “An ITV spokesman said: ‘We are incredibly proud of what Home Fires has achieved, but the ITV commissioning team continues to refresh the channel’s drama portfolio, hence the decision not to commission a further new series’.”
The Radio Times poll currently shows 97% of respondents disagree with ITV’s decision to cancel Home Fires. Fans are petitioning ITV via Change.org, to recommission Home Fires for a third season. As of this writing, it has 7,463 signatures. In the US, the first season of Home Fires premiered on PBS in October, 2015.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Should the Home Fires TV show have been cancelled or renewed? Let us know, below.
As several other people have said, “Home Fires” was a fabulous show with characters viewers came to care about. It was of much higher quality than most of the claptrap and garbage we are fed here in the U.S. To have such a quality program cancelled without resolution of several key storylines is disappointing at best. Since it appears our local PBS station aired this at least a year after the UK airing, I realize the decision was probably made 2 years ago, but need to express my displeasure at how badly this was handled. Hopefully the great actors involved… Read more »
i live in california, usa. i just wantched the season finale. i cannot belive it has been canceleed! There is so much more to tell, so many different paths to explore with the characters. Shame on Masterpiece! They have just left us hanigng with no closure.
This is so short-sighted of ITV and negatively impacts PBS in America. I have watched both seasons/series of the show avidly and signed the petition for ITV to un-cancel it. Such a great ensemble cast and it’s important WWII history we need to remember.
I am a big fan of Home Fires. I am disappointed that it will not be back on. Please reconsider.

I agree, bring it back. Was a fine story and believable.
Please give us a ending episode
PBS just lost a viewer, PBS was the only station I would watch a series on because you could always count on an ending and now because of what ITV has done they are no better than the other networks. I will blackball any ITV production and PBS should also as they have no consideration for their “customers”. If nothing else they should come back with a wrap up episode.
It’s not the fault of PBS,. They have been terrific in showing so many british shows..I am devastated we won’t be able to watch the 3rd season, maybe someone will have a change of heart fingers crossed.
Please reconsider reinstating Home Fires. The caliber of this show and the actors far surpasses any of the dumbed down, inferior drama we are duped to watch in the United States. If you are not able to carry on the series, perhaps we could appeal to BBC to take over ITV’s lack of interest in the quality of this well made drama and fine cast of actors and studio. Thank you very much, should you reconsider and please your patrons.
I have always felt the British tv community was above those here in the US that seem to always cancel quality series but now they are doing the same. I loved the first season of Home Fires and couldn’t wait to see Season 2. To have it cancelled a this point is utter supidity. What kind of thinking is this?? Like many others, I looked forward to my Sunday evening and watching this great ensemble cast create stories that put us there with them at this period in English history. I would hope the executives at iTV will reconsider this… Read more »
This is a vote from California to please continue this wonderful series. I plan my entire Sunday around watching this show (and Call the Midwife). It is so refreshing to have intelligent programming. I am sad, disappointed, and bewildered by the decision.
Finally, a show about real intelligent women of all ages and sizes… And this is what happens? I’m sick of young, stick-thin, sex-obsessed, cleavage-baring females on tv shows. This show has so much going for it with no real reason for it’s cancellation. After last night’s season (and unfortunately series) finale, there’s more questions than answers. This show needs to be brought back and pronto. If ITV doesn’t want to do so, move it to someone who does. Why should we invest in any of these shows if they’re not going to follow thru with them?
How can you cancel a show without wrapping up the storyline to a satisfactory conclusion. You’ve just left all of us hanging. Unfair.
I just watched the end of season 2 on PBS last night. I cannot believe that is the end. Just a stupid decision.
Why is it that the BEST, and well written, intelligent shows, are always cancelled after a couple of seasons ? This is a really wonderful show, and the people making the decision to end this interesting, and intelligent show are just plain WRONG in doing this. Please reconsider your decision !
I cannot believe this has series has been cancelled! I’m in shock. Especially only giving 2 seasons. This decision is premature and should be reconsidered!! You can only gain loyalty now that Downton Abbey is done!
