You can’t keep the home fires burning in UK. The Home Fires TV show has been cancelled by ITV. Actor Daniel Ryan, who played Bryn Brindsley in the World War II era drama, broke the bad news on Twitter. His tweet reads: “So, it is with huge sadness I must tell you that #HomeFires has been cancelled. Awful to leave stories untold and lives incomplete. Sorry.”
Executive producer Catherine Oldfield also tweeted about the Home Fires cancellation, saying: “So very sorry that #Homefires won’t be back. We loved making the show & that it was well received by so many made it all the more special.” The Home Fires cast also includes: Samantha Bond, Francesca Annis, Ruth Gemmell, Claire Rushbrook, Ed Stoppard, Chris Coghill, Clare Calbraith, Fenella Woolgar, Mark Bazeley, and Mike Noble. Many of them have tweeted about the cancellation, too.
The second season of the Home Fires TV series is set during the summer of 1940. The village of Great Paxford is caught up in the the Battle of Britain. Two weeks after the defeat at Dunkirk, with the German army advancing through France, Britain braces itself for invasion.
Home Fires season two ended on a cliffhanger, with a plane nose-diving into a home in the village.

Radio Times reports ITV has confirmed it cancelled Home Fires. “An ITV spokesman said: ‘We are incredibly proud of what Home Fires has achieved, but the ITV commissioning team continues to refresh the channel’s drama portfolio, hence the decision not to commission a further new series’.”
The Radio Times poll currently shows 97% of respondents disagree with ITV’s decision to cancel Home Fires. Fans are petitioning ITV via Change.org, to recommission Home Fires for a third season. As of this writing, it has 7,463 signatures. In the US, the first season of Home Fires premiered on PBS in October, 2015.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Should the Home Fires TV show have been cancelled or renewed? Let us know, below.
What on earth are they thinking?! Absolutely one of the best series PBS has ever aired. Many great shows, but this one in particular resonates with so many people as that era is still so fresh in many people’s minds and emotions. Need to know if Pat and her wonderful true love, Marek will find a life of happiness.
Extremely disappointed that Home Fires was cancelled. It’s such a let down to get invested in a show that offers no conclusion. It’s unfair to the viewers.
Truly upset and very disappointed that Home Fires is not rolling out Season 3. My friends and I, ages 20-98 enjoyed watching the history, sacrifice and dedication of a united community working to sustain each other while devoted to King, Queen,Empire and fighting other countries to be free from oppression. Such a powerful series! such a talented cast- such a shame- please reconsider!
This was a devastating loss. Never have I been so invested in a show that is so powerful and so real. I would not have minded if they only had 2 Seasons if that was all that was planned, but it was obviously not the case. There were so many cliffhangers in the last episode that I cannot believe such a decision was made and can’t fathom why. Is it because it was too many women or something. There cannot be a good reason. I don’t usually get so engaged in a show but I told everyone to watch it.… Read more »
I have been watching British shows as far back as the 1960s . American T,V, has lost it’s moral compass years ago . You all seem to show Community Values in your best works ,employing actors of all shapes, sizes and ages and that look like what REAL People look like. Americans are dumbing down especially when it comes to Wold History . Shows like “Home Fires” brings REAL LIFE to the living rooms of Americans. I live in Austin,Texas where we encourage people to “Keep Austin Weird” I BEG you all to” KEEP British Shows British !” Don’t let… Read more »
Why would one of the best Masterpiece Theater be cancelled??? So disappointed that we can’t see how it all continues. Shame on ITV!!!
ITV’s response to the cancellation makes no sense at all. Why would the producers of the show be in the midst of writing Season 3 without knowing whether or not the program would be renewed? No mention that the show had bad ratings, cast contract problems, etc. Another massive screw-up by those ‘in charge’.
So frustrating to loose this quality program, especially when there is so much poor stuff on TV and to make matters worse it was cancelled from PBS where we usually can count on quality programing. It was bad enough loosing Mercy Street and now to loose Home Fires. Very very frustrating. Cannot understand ITV! What in the world were they thinking!!!
Was trying to find out when the next season would be airing as I didn’t want to miss a second of the show when I came across this news about there won’t be a Season 3. How sad and very disappointing. 6 episodes of Season 2 was not enough! Please reconsider or at least give all us loyal fans some closure with some episodes with a better ending than what Season 2, Episode 6 did.
In full agreement with all the comments about cancellation. I also donate to PBS and hate to see GREAT shows canceled. Hope the decisión was not gender motivated. Loved those gals.
Please reconsider Season Three for “Home Fires”. It has been one of the best series on PBS. Pretty brutal to leave all the devoted fans with a cliffhanger. Did you not know this has been popular in the US?
Please reconsider ITV. Home Fires is a wonderful show. IF it is going to end some closure is needed!
What a disappointment to have Home Fires cancelled and I just sent PBS another donation! Please reconsider!
PBS wants us to donate. Donate to what? To see our favorite series cut off at the knees? No way!!!
Why in the world is there time and place for inferior programming, but GENUINE artistry is cast aside? No point in re-listing the FABULOUS cast; they were all so perfectly chosen. Lots of heavy-weight actors on board. The last episode left SO MANY unanswered questions. The claim that half of season three has already been written is so frustrating! WHO was killed in the plane crash (and who was the pilot)? What happens to the factory? Is Frances charged? What is Alison’s role in the future of the factory. What happens to Pat and Marek, the Czech officer? Bob and… Read more »
Also, what about the innocent love child? It seemed like Frances was starting to grow very fond of him in the last episode.
What a terrible loss; my husband and I absolutely adored the show. The acting was outstanding, the story so engaging unbelievable, cinematography gorgeous, I was evident that the cast had a wonderful Comerad or he which is the funeral it’s teacher I specially value. It absolutely makes no sense whatsoever to cancel the third season. I once lived in the UK, and still have a tend a place in my heart for that part of the country.
