There may still be a chance for Home Fires. According to Radio Times, the show’s creator is hoping to continue the cancelled ITV series.
Earlie this month, we reported the UK drama had been cancelled after two seasons. Home Fires stars Samantha Bond and Francesca Annis as members of the Women’s Institute during World War II.
Series creator Simon Block said he was surprised by the show’s cancellation:
It’s always difficult to gauge how things are going to go so you don’t quite know what the criteria for whether something’s going to carry on or not. It had held its audience, it had won its slots, figures were strong as far as I was told so in that sense I guess it was a surprise in that it went against what we were expecting based on the criteria we were told things get judged by.”
He mentioned that the fans’ response has been overwhelming:
I’ve been blown away. When the news came out that it had been cancelled, suddenly everything went ballistic and you really get a sense of how passionately people feel about it. That was really a bit of a shock.”
He later added that the show is exploring other avenues for a possible third season, but they are still in the process of “initial discussions.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Would you like a third season?
I do hope the series continues. I was huge Downton fan. Home Fires is the first series, since Downton, that captured my attention. I love the perspective the writer has taken. I think there is much more to be told. Please do not leave us hanging.
An excellent series for those who love British TV. I only hope that there is a resolve and this wonderful series continues.

A third season…. yes, please!!!
Finally a decent show to watch and they want to cancel it. Please reconsider. This is both excellent acting and theme. We want a season three……thanks…from Ontario , Canada.
I have just watched the last home fires and cant belive it wont continue this is tv at its best …please at least end it better than that…it is british tv we love to watch.. come to australia and see the crap we have to put up with ..and everyone will appriciate this show
Is it possible that the BBC could take this over if ITV are unwilling? It has all the elements for success….excellent characterisation, story line, historical background and portrayed from a different perspective, that of the women and men at home during this difficult period.
Please do not cancel Homefires. The characters were all well developed. The last installment I saw held me in suspense as to where the tale could go as the townspeople looked to the sky with the German bombers overhead .
I just came across Home Fires and fell absolutely in love with it. After Downton Abbey, this is the second best show I’ve ever seen and would be deeply heart broken if it were to cancel. PLEASE do not end Home Fires like this.
Please bring back Home Fires. I love English drama and this is one of the best I have ever seen.
Love love love this series. I am almost literally weeping having watched the last episode not knowing it was
If Home Fires ever gets revived by ITV or Netflix or Amazon, Season three should be set in 1941, season four should be set in 1942, season five should be set in 1943, season six should be set in 1944 and season seven (the final season) should be set in 1945. They could make all 5 Christmas specials. Starting with Christmas 1940.
Please bring back Home Fires. I love this drama. I always looked forward to seeing it every week. I agree with JM3…this series was just getting warmed up……so much more to be told.
This series must be renewed! What a great show, very well done. I love England and this is a great English story about a wonderful generation of people and is told with heart and realism. I realize a period drama can’t go on forever, but the stories haven’t been told yet! The series was just getting warmed up. Please reconsider!
Can’t believe such a wonderful series is cancelled. So difficult to find such meaningful tv. I felt like this history needs to be remembered and these actors and story did a beautiful job. Very sad.
This series provides pieces of a puzzle that my parents lived. Attitudes, perspectives, and the necessity of pulling together that I witnessed but had little understanding. We can’t forget… bring it on.
