There may still be a chance for Home Fires. According to Radio Times, the show’s creator is hoping to continue the cancelled ITV series.
Earlie this month, we reported the UK drama had been cancelled after two seasons. Home Fires stars Samantha Bond and Francesca Annis as members of the Women’s Institute during World War II.
Series creator Simon Block said he was surprised by the show’s cancellation:
It’s always difficult to gauge how things are going to go so you don’t quite know what the criteria for whether something’s going to carry on or not. It had held its audience, it had won its slots, figures were strong as far as I was told so in that sense I guess it was a surprise in that it went against what we were expecting based on the criteria we were told things get judged by.”
He mentioned that the fans’ response has been overwhelming:
I’ve been blown away. When the news came out that it had been cancelled, suddenly everything went ballistic and you really get a sense of how passionately people feel about it. That was really a bit of a shock.”
He later added that the show is exploring other avenues for a possible third season, but they are still in the process of “initial discussions.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Would you like a third season?
I just recently found Home Fires and absolutely love it. As an American, it has helped need to understand WWII in the shoes of our British sisters. It is so well written and acted. Please air Season 3 and 4!
Please continue the series. This is the best series on TV,why would you cancel a show that has terrific actors and script. There is so much more that can be added to the lives of the men and woman who fought and survived WW11. This is a riveting series and it must go on. I want to see Pat re-marry and be happy. The lives of all have touched us deeply and we need to have a proper closure.
Here in oz seriously waiting for series three
I loved this series! Please have a season 3. It’s not fair to leave such unfinished work. You iwe the viewer after that cliffhanger.
YES! Please make season three (and four and five) of Home Fires. My husband and I love it!
Oh dear I did leave what I thought was a humorous, slightly tongue in cheek comment about sad axing of Home fires….. Anyway it was axed ( deleted, haha)
Oh my life have just discovered this wonderfully acted gripping series, what an incredible cast and story line…..why on earth wouldn’t another series be made ???? I mean please we all know other series that complete trash that go on for ever and then a brilliantly made program comes along and it’s cancelled so we just left !!!!! Bonkers, stupid decision, viewing figures alone should have kept it on the air…..
Oh goodie maybe we shall have some more MINDLESS, POINTLESS, FACILE, INANE shows, yippee…..
The world is going down the rabbit hole…..
The episode that just aired is dated July 1940. The war ended in May of 1945 which leaves lots of story-lines yet to write. The ensemble cast and scripts are brilliant! Please reconsider the cancellation of such a fine series.
yes please do season 3 – we love this show – its very well done good acting scenery and costumes are authentic — bring it back
There are five war years to go and plenty of character drama to carry the series forward. The casting was superb. Would love to see the series completed.
absolutely!!! educate the younger generations. let them know what was done by many to give them their freedom and privileges they now have.
This is a quality series with a great cast. The story line is wonderful. It just gets better. Each character has such depth. Please don’t cancel this series, it would be a terrible waster.
This is a show with so much depth and is thoroughly enjoyable. Please bring it back for a third and 4th season. It is too good to be dropped
I live in Canada and Home Fires is one of our favourite shows on PBS. Please consider a third series. It is so well written with such talented actors. I am not exaggerating when I say all of our family members friends across Canada watch the show. How incredibly sad if it does not continue when it is as popular in Canada and the US as it is in UK.
Please please please Season 3 and 4 and 5!!!!
