Christopher Chance and company have been struggling in the ratings this season and FOX isn’t exactly helping them out. On Wednesday, the pair of scheduled Human Target episodes were pre-empted by President Obama’s speech from Tucson. Those episodes have been rescheduled for tonight, an evening when viewership is much lower and many fans of the show will probably miss them.
Now, FOX has decided to expand the Wednesday, January 26th edition of American Idol to two hours. As a result, the previously scheduled episode of Human Target will be bumped to Monday, January 31st. It’ll precede the final Lie to Me of the season (and possibly the series). The network hasn’t announced it yet but, if the two-hour Idol on the 26th is a success, FOX could certainly decide to expand the next couple episodes which would displace the last two episodes of Human Target’s season. While the series was once going to get a ratings boost from an Idol lead-in, it’s now getting shuffled around instead.
It would seem that FOX has all but given up on the series. At this point, it’s hard to blame them. The ratings certainly don’t warrant a third round of episodes. Season one averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.6 million viewers and it was almost cancelled with those numbers. Thus far, season two has averaged just a pitiful 1.6 rating and 6.04 million total viewers. Human Target is currently the lowest-rated scripted show on the network.
It seems that Human Target is already destined to be cancelled and these latest schedule changes will be the final blow.
What do you think? Will Human Target be renewed for season three or cancelled? What would you suggest doing to increase the ratings?

Season 1 was a winner! Great cast. Season 2 not so great. This group of renegades working for the stuffy woman is not credible. Get rid of her and tell the black guy to speak up. Why do actors whisper their lines?
Didn’t have any idea that the Wednesday 2-hr Human Target was going to be shown on Friday – great show – ensemble cast – tho liked it better sans the two females – but even with them the show is worth keeping — just find a night for it and let it stay there — American Idol has passed its prime — know that I’m not in the target age group – but guess what Fox – people in my age group actually do buy things — furniture – cars – food – clothes – once in a while target… Read more »
Problem is “Reality Crap TV” is killing scripted shows. It costs next to nothing to make shows like Idol or Kitchen or Bob’s outhouse or whatever crap they can think of compared to shows like Human Target and as long as stupid sheep… errr I mean people keep watching real people getting yelled at, scripted TV is doomed. TV nowadays faces great competition from a lot of other home entertainment forms (Internet, Gaming, Home Theater,…), will scripted TV shows go the same way as scripted Radio shows went when TV came along ? One thing is certain, if TV execs… Read more »
FOX needs to quit ******** around with the lineup. How about putting Human Target on at 8:00 and American Idiot on at 9:00. Human Target is the replacement for 24 which cost FOX a lot of viewers when it left the air. Long Live Human Target!!!
WE love HUMAN TARGET. Come on FOX, keep the show. Who wants to see all that crappy reality shows!!
PLEASE Don’t Cancel a good show!!
My whole family loves Human Target. Most of my friends do too. We are very surprised that it is doing so poorly in the ratings.
Nice to know, five days later, that last Wednesday’s double block was aired on Friday. Oh, wait! I’m sure Fox mentioned that fact some time on Thursday, but I don’t watch Fox on Thursday — they have nothing interesting then. They pretty much have a major shortage of interesting. Human Target is a shining star, an example of the type of programming that put Fox on the map. Idol? Please! It never was worth my time. Why is Fox so determined to keep it on? Just mindless drivel about artificial lifestyles.
love the show keep it!!!!!
Fox, which made groundbreaking strides in television programming in its early years with great [though sometimes risky] selections, should take a lesson from other networks’ failures with such highly-anticipated and ‘cult’-followed shows like The Unit and Pushing Daisies. Both of these were riding a high wave of viewership [roughly speaking] and both suffered from the predations of under-intelligent programming and poor leadership decisions. With Pushing Daisies, someone had the UNbrilliant idea that it could suffer the same long off-season as the smash hit 24 and go several months without a new episode airing but still retain its audience. Wrong! and… Read more »
come on Human Target is the best show ever !! Dont cancel this show !! there are good actors in that show !!
let go Human Target on forever !
American Idol is old and I won’t give it any of my time. Much prefer Human Target — great cast — neat ideas — action packed….much more to my liking. FOX needs to get their act together… I hardly even watch them anymore for most of their line up stinks……especially on Sunday evenings!!!!! Please, do not cancel Human Target but quit moving it around to the point where those of us who want to watch it cannot find it.
Utterly Sucks, Great Show!!!!
Human Target has a terrific ensemble cast (valley, haley and mcbride are superb), and unmatched production values and stunt work. Please do not cancel this show.
Fox is doing what other networks have done . Move a show around enough and people start to lose interest and get frustrated trying to find the show. So the ratings drop and the show gets cancelled.
