Christopher Chance and company have been struggling in the ratings this season and FOX isn’t exactly helping them out. On Wednesday, the pair of scheduled Human Target episodes were pre-empted by President Obama’s speech from Tucson. Those episodes have been rescheduled for tonight, an evening when viewership is much lower and many fans of the show will probably miss them.
Now, FOX has decided to expand the Wednesday, January 26th edition of American Idol to two hours. As a result, the previously scheduled episode of Human Target will be bumped to Monday, January 31st. It’ll precede the final Lie to Me of the season (and possibly the series). The network hasn’t announced it yet but, if the two-hour Idol on the 26th is a success, FOX could certainly decide to expand the next couple episodes which would displace the last two episodes of Human Target’s season. While the series was once going to get a ratings boost from an Idol lead-in, it’s now getting shuffled around instead.
It would seem that FOX has all but given up on the series. At this point, it’s hard to blame them. The ratings certainly don’t warrant a third round of episodes. Season one averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.6 million viewers and it was almost cancelled with those numbers. Thus far, season two has averaged just a pitiful 1.6 rating and 6.04 million total viewers. Human Target is currently the lowest-rated scripted show on the network.
It seems that Human Target is already destined to be cancelled and these latest schedule changes will be the final blow.
What do you think? Will Human Target be renewed for season three or cancelled? What would you suggest doing to increase the ratings?

I love Human Target and have been telling all my friends what a great show it is. The problem…..we never know when it’s going to be on. Ditch Amercian Idol and put something on TV that adults want to watch.
I just discovered Human Target this season and have been very frustrated by the schedule bouncing around. Every week I search out when the show is scheduled and then look forward to that day only to be disappointed when it is not on due to being rescheduled.
I too don’t think it got promoted properly as I would have loved to have been watching this show from the beginning. I am hooked on this show in the same way I was with Lost.
My wife and I like Human Target, it’s the best thing on Wed. night. Besides that it is one of the few shows that doesn’t exploit gay situations or terrible behavior by dumb parents. All shows do not need to be gay and dumb. American Idol sucks until the finals anymore, how many times can you watch talentless people be humiliated for the sake of their 15 min. of fame. Come On!!!!!!
We agree that Human Target has been poorly promoted and pushed around the time slots. It’s a great show with exciting story lines and a cast that works well together. The whole thing gels perfectly. American Idol? What a joke. Let us have a little substance to our entertainment. But as Phil said above, we lost Life on Mars and another great show with some thought in it, Rubicon. PLEASE DON’T LET HUMAN TARGET GO the same way!!!
put the show on a nite and leave it alone; it will do great
It seems to me that it is pointless to get interested in ANY shows anymore, after 1 or 2 seasons ( if that ) they get trashed… not to mention tons of people have too much going on and end up DVR / Tivo’ing to watch at a later time. Sure it still counts toword the ratings somewhat but I bet it becomes the norm. and until networks figure that out I am willing to be a lot more great shows will get the axe.
I absolutely love Human Target, and I agree and will repeat most of the prior writers: please don’t cancel this adult show to placate the teenbopper voyerists out there.
I am sorry to hear that Human Target is most likely to go on the “chopping block.” I have looked forward to more episodes this year but the show seems to be bounced around so much that viewers can’t even begin to keep up with the show schedule. I would rather watch this series than some of the monotonous reality shows and less desirable series that seem to make it from season to season. I don’t think that Human Target was advertised well at all for season two and I mostly hate to see it take a back seat to… Read more »
LOVE THIS SHOW
In an internet world where all things compete for attention, 6 million viewer should make a network happy. Please don’t cancel yet another show I like. I’m willing to give up network TV all together if I have to try to get interested in another new show all over again. American Idol sucks, 24 is the only show in the last 8 year that I enjoy that hasn’t been cancelled. Learn how to do business with 6 million viewers and you’ll have a lasting business. I’m now forced to watch reruns of Miami Vice on Hulu until the next episode… Read more »
this is my favorit show. I look forward to seeing this every week. I only found out about show recently.
American Idol suck and I am so sick of reality shows taking up good air time. move the reality shows to 11PM!
The problem that fox had was that it did not promote this show properly, this is one of the best show’s out there right now PLEASE do not cancel HUMAN TARGET!
Got yanked around again ! Really look forward to seeing this show, but can’t keep track of when it is going to show !! Why are the ratings poor when it clearly has more substance than “reality shows”. Can hardly believe Americans like American Idol rather than a quick action adventure.
I really like Human Target. But I also liked The Listener, Flash Forward, Kings, Flash Point, Trauma, Jack and Bobby, Life on Mars, The 4400, and Roswell.
Human target is a one of a kind action adventure series that the whole family can watch. It well written and brings a healthy balance in viewing pleasure. IMHO fox seemed to treat it as the sacraficial pawn from early on with short seasons and using this time slot to sustitute everything under the sun othere than what viewers looked forward to viewing. Quite a few viewers just threw in the towel as there really hasnt been any consistant airing of the show. Admittedly it has been a slow build from the beginning, but it was gaining momentum with a… Read more »
