Christopher Chance and company have been struggling in the ratings this season and FOX isn’t exactly helping them out. On Wednesday, the pair of scheduled Human Target episodes were pre-empted by President Obama’s speech from Tucson. Those episodes have been rescheduled for tonight, an evening when viewership is much lower and many fans of the show will probably miss them.
Now, FOX has decided to expand the Wednesday, January 26th edition of American Idol to two hours. As a result, the previously scheduled episode of Human Target will be bumped to Monday, January 31st. It’ll precede the final Lie to Me of the season (and possibly the series). The network hasn’t announced it yet but, if the two-hour Idol on the 26th is a success, FOX could certainly decide to expand the next couple episodes which would displace the last two episodes of Human Target’s season. While the series was once going to get a ratings boost from an Idol lead-in, it’s now getting shuffled around instead.
It would seem that FOX has all but given up on the series. At this point, it’s hard to blame them. The ratings certainly don’t warrant a third round of episodes. Season one averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.6 million viewers and it was almost cancelled with those numbers. Thus far, season two has averaged just a pitiful 1.6 rating and 6.04 million total viewers. Human Target is currently the lowest-rated scripted show on the network.
It seems that Human Target is already destined to be cancelled and these latest schedule changes will be the final blow.
What do you think? Will Human Target be renewed for season three or cancelled? What would you suggest doing to increase the ratings?

This WAS one of the best shows on TV! The addition of the Ilsa Pucci character has turned the other outstanding characters into fawning “idiots”! What the Hell were the writers thinkng in adding her! She has “compromised” every situation they have drawn her into. They were an efficient, well coordinated team until she arrived. They didn’t seem to need outside financing prior to her addition so why now? This woman is a “klutz” with money (she sure as hell isn’t attractive!). PLEASE get back to the well written scripts and action based stories that allows Chance, Winston and Guerrero… Read more »
I agree 100% with J. Fortune. I thought last season was excellent and was lauding Christopher Chance as Fox’s new and better Jack Bauer, just in time for the ending 24. Chance was more suave and charming unlike Bauer, accomplished and convincing in battle but with a heart. The created a nice back story and some memorable villains and enemies. Then they screwed it up in season 2 with Elsa Pucci and the young chick and some really bad writing. They made the story lines cute and almost sitcom like instead full of intrique, high plot, more like 24. You… Read more »
my family and my daughters family the show. csi ny and vegas are tire shows
Human Target is really a great show. This year has been the best with the addition of the new characters, the show is coming into it’s own. If you would stop moving it around and continue advertising with the great clips like you have recently, then I believe the show will really take off. There is not another show like it on any other network. It is not the typical cop or medical show you see on the other networks. This show is unique, and that is what FOX is all about, not the same old stuff.
This is one of Fox TV’s best shows along with Lie to Me! Please renew both of them! PLEASE! Catzmom is so right, how can a show expect to thrive when it’s yanked around. Keep it in one time slot and give it a chance!
Fox always craps out when it has good series like Firefly, John Doe, New Amsterdam and Human Target. They prempt the show repeatedly and then cancel it saying low ratings. Low? How is there any ratings. Show 3 eps and then show movies with the olsen twins and so on and then show the same 3 eps again is Fox’s way of deciding low ratings. They’d kill though to keep shows like Prison Break (Aone note show which grew tireaome after the first half of season 1 or Sarah Connor Chronicles in which Sarah was played by Lena Henley but… Read more »
Now since Chance has a llsa (to please the female viewers, no doubt), he is not saving people in trouble to redeem himself but is busy saving himself or his crew. The first season had more excitement when he was more on his own and contending with all sorts of interesting characters…sorry to see it go.
If all the network looks at is 18-49, they are a bunch of morons. I’m 62 and my wife is in her 50’s. We love the show and watch it regularly. More importantly, we are consumers with disposable income. Another point which I have wondered about is when TV analists look at viewer numbers they take into account shows being DVR’d. I know a lot of our friends never watch a show live unless it is a sporting event or awards show. These numbers should be taken into account when viewership of a program is anaylized.
I LOVE this show. Just bought the season one series a week ago and have watched them
all. I gave up my favorite show, Criminal Minds for this show. Fox finally comes out with a great idea and they want to cancel?!? I guess I was never ment to watch Fox after all. Shame on Fox!!
We love this show. It’s about all that we watch on the fox network. The characters have a chemistry that is funny and charming. My husband is not a huge fan of TV but makes a point of watching this show. It would be yet another mistake by fox to cancel a show that appeals to adults! The world does not revolve around stupid cartoons and disgusting reality garbage. Fox wake up and stay with something that adults like. There are still a lot of us baby boomers out here. Appeal to us!!!
From the inception of episode one, HT has been my favorite show on TV. I hope that Fox brings back Chance and company. I plan to get the Series on DVD for my time deployed. I hope it returns
Just watched the “season finale” and LOVED it! This is one of my favorite shows and Mark Valley is a welcome site from a long day at work. I haven’t missed an episode. Please give this wonderful cast and story line a regular night and promote it. I beg of you not to cancel this show.
The show is an easy watch, if you expect to much out of it you wont get it. Reminds me of Macgyver, another show I liked. I honestly think the show is a lot better than all of those worthless fake reality shows, and over done vampire spin offs. We need more shows like Human Target. The kind of show where at any moment the writers can throw you a curve and now its somthing new, yet it is grounded by the cast. Critics don’t like this show. however that is not saying much since the new crop of critics… Read more »
