Christopher Chance and company have been struggling in the ratings this season and FOX isn’t exactly helping them out. On Wednesday, the pair of scheduled Human Target episodes were pre-empted by President Obama’s speech from Tucson. Those episodes have been rescheduled for tonight, an evening when viewership is much lower and many fans of the show will probably miss them.
Now, FOX has decided to expand the Wednesday, January 26th edition of American Idol to two hours. As a result, the previously scheduled episode of Human Target will be bumped to Monday, January 31st. It’ll precede the final Lie to Me of the season (and possibly the series). The network hasn’t announced it yet but, if the two-hour Idol on the 26th is a success, FOX could certainly decide to expand the next couple episodes which would displace the last two episodes of Human Target’s season. While the series was once going to get a ratings boost from an Idol lead-in, it’s now getting shuffled around instead.
It would seem that FOX has all but given up on the series. At this point, it’s hard to blame them. The ratings certainly don’t warrant a third round of episodes. Season one averaged a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.6 million viewers and it was almost cancelled with those numbers. Thus far, season two has averaged just a pitiful 1.6 rating and 6.04 million total viewers. Human Target is currently the lowest-rated scripted show on the network.
It seems that Human Target is already destined to be cancelled and these latest schedule changes will be the final blow.
What do you think? Will Human Target be renewed for season three or cancelled? What would you suggest doing to increase the ratings?

love Human Target, will be so sad to see it cancelled. They would have got better rates with a better more consistent time slot, great show.
Please do not cancel Human Target. I love the action, humor and Chi McBribe a chicago guy.
Please, please do not cancel Human Target. A wonderfully scripted show. It suffers from Am. Idol preceeding it. I feel sorry for people who have to watch Idol, a show that should not last almost a whole season – It could easily be over in three weeks. Human Target on the other hand, gives one action and human feelings. Most importantly it does not have to rely on sex and sexual situations. Any show that has to rely on sex is not a good show. Look at all the past series that succeeded without sex. So again, I implore you… Read more »
I am devastated to learn of the cancellation of Human Target. It is one of your best series but I do think the problem has always been the poor treatment of the show: never in a predictable position in the line-up: I despaired every week, searching for its showing that week. Please don’t cancel. I would urge you to keep it one more season and give it a good, predictable airtime and just watch those ratings soar!
I am devastated to learn of Human Target making the hit-list. Fox, you have only yourselves for the low ratings you claim as reason for the cancellation. You have never scheduled it for maximim exposure. It has beed moved so many times, I almost despaired of finding when the heck it was showing! I was always angry with you. Now, downright furious. I love Bones, Chicago Code (or is that NBC?). I once liked House but he has become a silly, awful clown. Knock it off!
I really like the show. My daughter got me hooked on Human Target. I like the toughness of the male charcters plus the humor. I like the mystery of Garareo (oops sorry for the spelling). When Fox started changing the time and day it was hard to follow when it would show. I would look forward to watching and settle in front of the tv ready to enjoy this show and then to my disappointment the time or the day had changed without notice. I really think Fox should renew for another season and have it on a consistant time… Read more »
I started watching Human Target in 2011, and I am hooked. I hope FOX renews it. Any news on that?
My husband and I loved Human Target. It is a shame that the net work wouldn’t extend it for at least another season. I think that the reason for the low ratings was due to the fact that we never new when it was playing and I think that was unfair of FOX not to give the show another chance and especially to keep the air time constant so at least the fans would be able to watch on a regular basis. The show had great humor and action. We loved all the actors and we are sorry to see… Read more »
We love watching Human Target very very much. The acting, writing and directing are outstanding. I really enjoyed the female roles. Please don’t cancel. There aren’t many shows this good….
human target is a well-scripted, more than ably-acted show. what do you have to lose? take some risks with the content and give it a late time slot. you’ve set the characters up for more provacative story lines than the old complicated love/issues relationship. with this premis and these actors, you have a chance to redefine serial drama. stop trying to compete directly with the other networks’ crime drama stuff, do what fox does well, blaze new territory. middle america will catch on.
My husband and I love human target. The show just keeps getting better and better. Please give the show another chance. I try and tell everyone I know what a great show it is. Please please bring it back……
I liked Human Target in the beginning when Christopher Chance was cool, dark, and mysterious. Now he’s this emotional wimp that is always looking for a shoulder to cry on. If the show was a little edgier, (yes, I mean real violence) and Christopher was more useful (why is he always getting beaten up by women, thugs, punks and other assassins) the ratings would increase. Think 24 in terms of edgy, but the Human Target package. That would pack real punch!
We enjoy Human Target almost as much as the previously
dead and buried 24.I agree that FOX doesn’t help the show,
especially when the un-expected Tuscon tragedy hit and the
Presidents speech pre-empted the showing but how many
talent based shows do we have to endure.if it isn’t Idol,Dance,
of all variations or what-ever.I enjoy talent-based shows being
a musician, but get behind something and stick with it and just
maybe the target number may jump a little,
I love “Human Target”, cool show, humer, action a little romance, never missed an episode, last season or this. This show plus “Bones” & “Chicago Code” best things on FOX.
My husband and I truly enjoy Human Target. We especially enjoy the addition the female element and the way the actors play off of each other. We really, really hope they keep it on the air, as it would be missed!!!
