Kevin (Probably) Saves the World just wrapped its first season, but will there be a second? Recently, executive producers Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas spoke with TVLine about the future of the ABC TV show.
The dramedy stars Jason Ritter as Kevin Finn, a self-involved and materialistic man who begins receiving instructions from a heavenly guide. The cast also includes JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Chloe East, J. August Richards, Dustin Ybarra, and India de Beaufort.
Even though ABC has not announced a season two renewal for Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, Butters and Fazekas says they have plans for more character development if the show returns:
Kevin is on a need-to-know basis. And the interesting thing about having Amy in the fold is: Amy is not necessarily going to take whatever Yvette’s answer is as the answer. She’s going to demand a lot more. And then even with Dave, Will Sasso’s character, they assume that Dave is dead. I don’t know that dead always means dead. That’s the great thing about a show like this, where you can make your [own] rules. … [But] I never want see where they’re from, because that will never be that interesting. I always feel like, in some ways, it’s more interesting to leave that to the viewer.”
When asked about the show’s renewal chances, Fazekas says it’s unclear at the moment but they have hope for a season two:
We’ve been with ABC for a while. ABC typically doesn’t make final decisions until right around the time of upfronts. I know they love [Jason Ritter]. I know [ABC President] Channing [Dungey] has said they love, creatively, where the show is. So that’s all we know. You have to operate under the assumption, “We’ll get a second season. Let’s set ourselves up for a good second season.” … There are so many other factors: It’s how their pilots come in, how the rest of their season goes, and what their schedule is going to look like. So there’s a million different things that go into their decision making, and because they’re all out of our control, it’s like I can’t even bother spending a lot of energy on it, because I can’t do anything about it.”
What do you think? Have you seen Kevin (Probably) Saves the World? Do you want a second season?
I would love a second season of Kevin! My husband and I watched every episode of season one, and love the show so much. Please bring it back for season two!
Love this show funny
Please, please, please do not cancel this show! I and my family love the concept, cast, and watching it together. I would adopt Jason Ritter in a heartbeat as well!
I absolutely love the show and adore the cast. In today’s world we need a show that focuses on the good that happens in the world. Please, as a mother, I’m begging you to keep this family friendly show around for years!
Please renew ABC! Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, is a great family show. Unpredictable, funny, creative, witty and (Probably) amazing. Love it. It keeps me curious and happy at the same time.
PLEASE renew Kevin !!! This is by far my favorite show on regular TV. It is funny, charming, interesting, well written, extraordinary actors !! PLEASE renew !!
KevinProbably is a show that the world desperately needs. Aside from just being a quality family friendly show in a time when violence is ruling the airways(both in fiction and reality). Just look at what we got from Season1. Viewers(real people in the real world) inspired to do random acts of kindness ie…paying for other people’s meals, gas, groceries…all because of a tv show. Those very stories getting back to the cast who decided to go into the “real world” to help the homeless in the community where they were filming. It goes to show just how true it is… Read more »
Please please please renew this wonderful show. I enjoy it so much. I look forward to it every week.
Please renew Kevin Probably Saves the World. I enjoy watching Jason Ritter and love his Kevin character as well as the other actors in the show. It’s a great escape from every day news which can be depressing. Kevin is uplifting and allows me fantasy. I even DVR it just in case.
Quirky, fun, different, just what tv needs. Not sure I would have watched without Ritter though, he pulls off the role well.. Loved, and still miss his dad, he would be so proud of Jason. Renew please.
I haven’t rooted for a show so hard since Parenthood, and before that Homefront in the early 90s! Great cast, fantastic show, we need a second season.
Renew this show. It delivers both humor and a lesson of life.
We tried very hard to enjoy this show— but found it trite and unfunny. The cast was likeable enough, but it just didn’t seem worth the time.
Absolutely need a second season!
I love the show. It is creative and well written. The characters are well formed and very likable. I look forward to each episode and Jason Ritter is funny like his father. Just one of his looks makes a scene funny. I also want to mention that there are many moments have caused me to tear up. When I first heard about this show I did not think I would like it. Boy, was I wrong. I look forward to each episode. I truly hope we will see several seasons of this outstanding show.
This show is my favorite shows. The scripts and acting is top notch. It’s refreshing to see a show I don’t mind watching with my kids.
