It looks like the Law & Order franchise is staying alive — for at least one more year. NBC has renewed Law & Order: Special Victims Unit for a 17th season on the network.
Debuting in 1999, Law & Order: SVU follows an elite squad of detectives who investigate sexually based crimes in New York City. In the current 16th season, the cast includes Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Danny Pino, and Raul Esparza.
While the show is one of the peacock network’s longest-running scripted series, it’s still doing pretty well in the ratings. It’s NBC’s third-highest rated drama in the coveted 18-49 demographic with a 1.7 rating and 7.22 million viewers. Compared to last season, SVU is down by 7% in the demo but is up by 14% in viewers.
As of last night, 356 episodes of SVU have aired on NBC — and there are many more to come.

YES!!!! This show is the very best for becoming aware of the violence that does exist. Recognizing the subtle hints. It is well written and the cast are all OUTSTANDING!!!!

Great show bring back detective stabler
I think it I a wonderful, well-written, well acted show, and the best show on TV. Mariska is the soul of the show, which has not only been entertaining us, but educating us about sexual violence. I hope it will continue as long as those involved have the energy to keep making it.
I am very happy to see that SVU was renewed. But I have to say that I still miss Chris Meloni and Dan Florek. I think getting rid of Chris Meloni was a BIG mistake.
I think this show should go on for a long time, my favorite is Benson She is an amazing actress.

While I love the show & I’m glad it is renewed I still wish they would bring back the original Law & Order too. It was my all time favorite, I’ve watched reruns more than once. I’d love to see Chris Noth on it but with a higher title. Was he suppose to be in Law school on the series?? How great it would be if he were a D.A. on L & O. I can just see him berating a Detective that did some of the same things he did as one.

Great show!!! This show could run forever, especially with the real life issues we face everyday! Honestly, because of this show’s potential, it’s impo to guess when it could end….
