The women and men of the New York City PD’s 16th precinct will return to fight the good fight. NBC has renewed its Law & Order: Special Victims Unit TV show for a 20th season. The Dick Wolf procedural remains the longest-running, non-animated primetime TV series currently on a major broadcast network.
An NBC legal-crime drama, Law & Order: SVU stars Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, and Raúl Esparza. The police procedural centers on Lt. Olivia Benson (Hargitay) and her elite squad of New York City Police Department detectives who investigate crimes including sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: A Look at the Ratings
The 19th season of Law & Order: SVU is averaging a 1.28 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.971 million viewers. Compared to season 18, that’s down by 4.56% in the demo, but it is up by 2.50% in viewership. When compared to the other scripted NBC TV shows we are tracking, the series remains a top-three performer in the demo and a top-five performer in terms of total audience size.
Dick Wolf has had a very big night with NBC. The network also issued renewals to his Chicago franchise: Chicago Fire (season seven), Chicago PD (season six), and Chicago Med (season four).

So a few suggestions for season 20: DISMISS THE NEW ADA…BRING BACK NOVAK OR BARBA..THEY WERE LITERALLY THE BEST ONES. ALSO, Bring back a love interest for Lt. Benson..preferably CAPTAIN TUCKER..A few love scenes wouldnt hurt. I miss detective Amaro as well. Furthermore, I TRULY LOVE SVU..HOWEVER Season 19 was a tad bit slow. Revisit some of the past seasons preferably seasons 5-9 or Season 17 to get some ideas. Those seasons were SOME OF THE BESTTTTT…Wait Season 4 was good too. Law and Order has always been one of my favorite shows! Yes I do miss Stabler, but I don’t think the show is worse without him. Mariska is an amazing actress and does a great job on the show, she is one of the main reasons I still watch it. I am beyond glad they are doing a 20th season and I can’t wait for it to be released!

I love Law and Order – I hope it never gets cancelled. I know Detective Armaro is retired but the show should find a way of bringing him back – I loved him Truly missed. Him and Olivia made a great team
With out Stabler it is all about Mariska Hargitary. He made the show she is ruining it. Get him back or dump the SUV
It’s great news we have season 20 to look forward to, but I hope they bring back Stabler into the mix .Those episodes and the ones with Cragen were the best .

I live in the UK and follow very few series, but Law & Order was the exception, I found it riveting. A couple of years before it was cancelled I decided to try out SVU and it was every bit as compelling. The acting is way more natural than in a majority of US series, and Mariska Hargitay is just total class. Super excited that there’s a 20th season. Love this show! I have laughed, cried and got angry at times. But for me that’s what makes it a great show. I’m invested to the point where I show real emotion!
Can’t wait for the next season. Have watched all 19 seasons without fail and am excited another year and hoping for more.
