Sometimes the truth hurts — especially when it comes to television ratings. After three seasons, FOX has cancelled Lie to Me.
Starring Tim Roth, Lie to Me revolves around Cal Lightman and members of The Lightman Group. They’re a team of specialists who help law enforcement agencies uncover the truth by using applied psychology. Others in the cast include Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Monica Raymund, Hayley McFarland, and Mekhi Phifer.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. That was down from season one and the series found itself on the bubble for renewal. FOX ended up giving the TV series another chance and renewed it for 13 episodes.
Unfortunately, season three didn’t perform nearly as well as season two. It premiered last October to a 2.1 rating in the demo and 5.86 million. Viewership eroded in subsequent weeks and FOX declined to give the show a full season order. Lie to Me then hit a new series low in January, registering a meager 1.5 rating and 5.43 million viewers.

In its final weeks on the air, viewers seemed to rally behind it and Lie to Me had its best ratings of the season — a 2.5 in the demo and 7.67 million.
Though the ratings had come way down, FOX execs claimed that they still valued the TV series and saw it as a solid utility player. Showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Now, after three seasons on the air, the series is over. FOX has officially cancelled Lie to Me after 48 episodes. All of the installments have aired. Though there are too few episodes for a traditional syndication package, the first two seasons have already been released on DVD.
What do you think? Should Lie to Me have been renewed for season four?

This show change my life. That’s all I have to say. Come back now Lie to me.
This show was my favorite show on Tv… Bring it back!!!
This was an excellent show and now it is no longer. I was waiting and wondering why I hadn’t seen the show over the past few months and now I know why. Someone got this wrong. This was a quality show that kept you interested from start to finish. The dynamic between the stars was also great. So it’s a sad day indeed!!!!!!
I loved this show I am so mad it got cancelled. You folks are crazy I feel betrayed. As a viewer I have never gotten polled about tv showes. the 18 to 49 folks are not the only ones watching TV and they don’t have all the money in the bank to spend at the stores so wise up folks let us have a show back
i think this show is a smart, intellectually driven show. Tim Roth, in my opinion is a very good actor, and he shined here and it drives me bonkers finding that this show was canceled. Cal Lightman was a quipy character with smart dialogue, quite a few funny lines and was intellectually intimidating, one of my favorite TV show characters of all time. i hope that Fox realizes that they made a BIG mistake in cancelling the show and i hope they renew it because Tim Roth is the perfect Cal Lightman.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I feel betrayed…
Nooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fox bring back the show, immediately. I loved it and I know a many of my friends did so as well. And guess what, we’re all in the 18-22 age range. Fox, did you think that some of your viewers missed tuning in, did you even see how many times the online shows were viewed??!!?!!? Bring it back, end of argument
Its amazing that they cancelled this show. They obviously weren’t looking in the right place This site alone shows FOX how popular this show is out of 2,886 people that vote on the polls 94% said it should be cancelled . Thats ridiculous that because 8% don’t know a good show if it smaked them in the face, that we all don’t get to watch a great show that stimulates the mind. Really FOX how many stupid shows do you need you have plenty for the kids to rot there brains with what about something for the adults, you know… Read more »
I and my friends are in love with this series so we would REALY like season 4 to get on air! Message to FOX: I will have Cal piss you off so much that you will get season 4 on air.
No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 我愛蒂姆羅斯 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Tim Roth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sad sad sad … i love it… :´(
fox played a nasty trick on us saying they were behind the show and then canceling it. they care only about themselves they prove it time and time again. its not fair they have plenty of time to give us an ending to any show they owe the fans at least that much . least other networks make an effort to put out books ( the 4400) or comic books (jericho) to try to give an ending but not fox not 1 time have they showed they care for us at all.
It’s a sad day when the ridiculous (un)reality shows wins out over a great show. Could the story line be a bit different, the distrust between the coworkers needed to stop, OK sure. It still outweighs 90% of the other shows out there. I would certainly like to ‘see’ who is polling the 18-49 year old demographics, they must be ‘lying’ to you. I would chalk up the low viewer numbers to any number of reasons, mostly the fault of Fox itself. The interruption from the baseball play-offs. People could have seen the break in season as the end of… Read more »
I think Lie ToMe should be brought back. It was my favorite show. It is a great and entertaining show. Please bring it back.
Please don’t cancel “Lie to me” it was a really good show, and it deserves the chance for a forth season, besides Tim Roth & Co. did a really good job 😀
Goes to show that intelligent audiences are becoming more and more scarce. I’m still two thirds in season 2 and by now (except maybe an episode or two) this show was exceptional, I mean very well written, mostly unpredictable and a series that really teaches you a great deal about people and how they react. I never realized the potential of microexpresions and body language until I watched this show. After this I’m seriously considering studying the issue, you know, as a hobby in my spare time. Furthermore, (you can’t compare them actually) from strictly my point of view and… Read more »
