Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

I would like t Fox to bring “Lie To Me” back. I enjoyed this show very much.
love this show. they have got to bring it back for good.
I watch lie to me religiously and was confounded to find it gone in favor of 24 which I have no interest in. I would love to have this show continue I find it interesting and intriguing.
The only show I TV that I wait all week to see. I’ve gotten several of my other friends addicted to it as well. Can’t wait until its back – it’s been a boring winter with out it!
Please return this great show to prime time. we loved that it was so uniquely different from all the rest of the garbage. I hope to be pleasantly surprised by your renewal. I usually watch PBS but can be persuaded to watch more programs like Lie to Me.
my family love the show we are looking forward to the next episode. Please don’t cancel it.
My family loves Lie to Me! Fox needs to commit itself to the program to allow it to develop it’s own fan base. Other wildly popular shows did exactly set the world on fire when they first started. Give Lie to Me a chance!
I am convinced that TV networks aren’t interested in quality viewing. They are only interested in mindless sex and violence. Anytime they finally come up with a show that has some depth, intellect, humor and actually requires you to use your brain, they want to cancel it. I love this show. Tim Roth is absolutely the best. Must they take everything away from those of us who really enjoy having our brains stimulated???!!!
Please dont cancel Lie To Me. I agree strongly with all the other comments I’ve read so far. This is a great show with depth and suspense. What a loss it will be if Fox should drop it. Too many good show are being canceled to make room for some crappy stuff.
Awesome show!!! When paired with House its the best two hours on television. Give it a chance to catch on.
Why is it that quality shows like “Lie To Me” are in danger of being canceled when there is sooo much awful programming on.
Give this show a chance. It has everything: intelligence, heart, humor, suspense. Who could ask for more than that??
My husband and I are unhappy that “Lie to Me” has been off for sooooo long. Just when it was scheduled to return the network interrupted it again. It is our favorite show. Wish another station would pick it up or they would put it on another night. What are you thinking, Fox? It is way better than some of the stuff you currently have on. You moved it around and cancelled etc. and showed the show NO RESPECT.
I love the “Lie To Me” television show and have anxiously awaiting the 3rd season. As I have seen no commercials for the return I tuned in to the internet to see what was happening. I love “Lie To Me” for the drama, the action, and the education. I can relate to this program because it addresses every day life…lies! Please continue this program year after year after year…as people get wiser, and hopefully they will, they will see that “Lie To Me” is a program worthy of a life time of viewing! Thank You ***
I loved the show and so did my friends. Please bring it back. It is a fascinating show.
This is THE most fascinating show I’ve ever seen on TV !! I love it and is the only show I watch on FOX. The cast is perfect, the subject of this show is so fresh and new. PLEASE don’t cancel it. BRING IT BACK. CAN’T WAIT !!!!!!!
I TOTALLY agree!! I love Tim Roth’s unwavering need to know the truth ~ this is probably the ONLY show that I actually MADE time for. Perhaps some didn’t like it cuz it hit too close to home?! ;p Love your comment! BRING THE SHOW BACK!!
