Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

I have watched this sow from Day one. I actually had a friend in Austraila that did a poll. All 60 of us had Lie to Me in our top shows we watch faithfully. Glad it is back!!
I love lie to me
Love the show, would rather see it moved to another spot if necessay rather than take if off.
This is my favorite show on TV. I currently have been watching an episode every night before I go to bed… I watch the same ones over and over on Hulu and am about to buy season 1 on dvd. I stopped watching House because of the storyline and i’m just bored of it, no offense to Hugh Laurie who is pretty spectacular… Lie to Me is my newfound substitute for it (because it has become better…). Tim Roth is a genius and everyone else on the show is incredible too . People may say otherwise but Kelli Williams is… Read more »

Lie To Me is my favorite show on television! I have a lot of friends that feel the same way. You might want to change it to a different night, but don’t do away with it. We will all be so disappointed. It is the best thing Fox has going for it! When in Spring will it start up again? I want to mark my calendar & be sure to put it on my DVR priority list! Please email me & let me know what day it will be returning. I will be sure to tell all my friends. Thanks… Read more »
One on my favorite tv shows. even just the concept is entertaining. move it to a new night and get more viewers
Where is Lie to Me? I am so disappointed to hear that I have to wait until spring for another…it’s my favorite program of the whole week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love this show, and unlike some, I really like the way the science is pointed out to the viewer. In House you practically have to have a medical degree to be able to follow what’s happening. I really hope they do a 3rd season because I really love the science behind it. Sure TV dumbs it down a bit to allow the audience to follow the storylines, but its far more interesting to reveal the reasons behind the lie than how the lie is foud out.
*LOVE* Lie to Me – original and entertaining…
I love “Lie to me” but monday night is OVERLOADED with good programming..move it to tuesday or friday where there is nothing worthwhile to watch…i agree with w dickerson, if more people say it they would be hooked too..i dont usually like those kinds of shows but my husband insisted we watch the first episode and i have been a fan ever since…the cast is just incredible..i look forward to it every week…
Love the show. I prey Fox brings it back. It would do better if they put it in a better time slot. I think if more people saw it, it would do much better, because it is a great show.
look I watch all sorts of diverse shows, from reality to scifi. Somewhere in between lie shows like “lie to me” and “the mentalist” shows that are actually based on parts of reality while playing in the land of fiction. I find these shows to be informative and just plain awesome. If you watch “lie to me” and are not able to apply microexpression’s in life, well can’t help the audience that needs instant replay to see a touchdown
Fox, Fox, Fox…..why on earth would you even consider cancelling Lie to Me …. and then go out and hire a moran like Sarah Palin to help with your news?!? Geezzzz…..if it wasn’t for House (and Lie to Me) I’d never even flip over to Fox.
