Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

I wish they wouldn’t put it on haitus. I wish they would move it to another night and keep it there. Stop moving the shows around. How can people come attached to the shows when they keep moving around or have a hiatus?
Love this show! The acting is clever and believable, the characters ring true (no pun intended) and Tim Roth is riveting at Cal Lightman. More please.
I love this show – so much that I actually purchased the first season. Why is it that they move these shows around and show/don’t show them for a week or two – Just put it in a time slot and leave it. It better come back soon. Fox is NOT my favorite network – but since Lie to Me – I have been faithful to watching it. Several of my friends both here in town and in other cities are loving this show. Keep it going.
I love the show and I think that they should just put it on another channel, or on another channel on another night. I believe when you leave a show on hiatus like that, it tends to make the show completely dwindle out and then it ends up getting cancelled and I don’t want that to happen.
Bring Lie To Me back! It is the only show that deals with facial expressions and the ability to read peoples behavior. It’s a great cast and the show has lots of potential. Bring it back and I think with time, it will become more popular.
Put the show back on! I love this show. I find entertaining and educating! It helps me to identify someone who isn’t playing stright with me. I’m going through withdrawals!
I love the show and think that this type of work that Dr Lightman does is really needed in this day and age of terrorists. Maybe someone with these skills would have spotted the bomber guy on Christmas 2009. Am I too old to go to school and get trained in this field?
Please DON’T cancel the school. Just move it to another night. Monday has too many good shows, while other nights have crap 🙁
This is one of a few new shows that is good- it made me go to the library and get 5 books on body language- shows what North America is made of a show that makes you think – isn’t on at this time – get rid of those stupid survivor shows- for the mentally weak
I love this show! It has a unique flavor. It got interupted with American Idol and such so it didn’t have a REGULAR showing. I hope they have more seasons of this show.
I really do enjoy “Lie To Me” and would hate to lose seeing it gone. Ot is one of the major shows I try to make time for to watch including House. Damn get rid of Glee and give the $ to Lie to Me.
I really like this show and hope the characters will continue to develop. Tim Roth is fabulous in whatever he does and a treat to watch. It all depends on the writing though.
i rellay hope that they do not cancel lie to me, i think it is a fantastic show! i love dr. lightman!
I love this show. It seems all the good shows get cancelled….BRING IT BACK!!!!
House is my #1 favorite show. Since Lie to Me started playing after it, I became an instant fan. I LOVED that these two shows were back to back on Monday night. I’ve really missed it’s absence in the last few weeks, and I’m disappointed to learn that it will be taken off the air instead of moved to another time. I would hate to see the show cut completely.
Although Lie to me is *not* my favorite show, I am a faithful viewer and am disappointed that it will not be on again until spring. Please do not drop this show. Move to another night. Monday is filled with great shows, but Tuesday is not. The show’s premise and acting are good…. some of the writing is a little too predictable. I love the relationship b/w Cal and his daughter and also w/ Zoe.
