This evening, FOX is airing the final episode of Lie to Me’s third season. Will the series be back for a fourth season or will it be cancelled? The answer may have a lot to do with how well the show performs tonight.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. This season has been a different story. The series hasn’t been performing nearly as well and FOX declined to give the series an order for the back nine, leaving the season at 13 installments. That’s often a sign that the network has given up on a series and will just use up what they have left.
So far this season, Lie to Me ranks near the bottom on the list of FOX’s scripted shows, averaged a 1.9 rating in the demo and 5.75 million viewers. On January 10th, a pair of episodes averaged a 1.6 in the demo and 5.46 million viewers. Based on those numbers you could be pretty sure that the show’s fate was sealed.

But then, the next week, Lie to Me registered a 20% gain in the demo. Last week, it saw an astounding 39% gain — moving up to a 2.5 rating and 7.67 million viewers. That represents a season high for the drama. If the series can sustain that rating tonight, it could be encouraging enough for FOX execs to greenlight a fourth season.
Despite the low ratings, the producers certainly don’t feel like the network has given up on Lie to Me. In a recent interview, showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Cary also indicated that tonight’s finale goes to the heart of Lightman and Foster and their strong emotional bond. He noted, “We’re very happy with it. We think it will make the fans only more hungry for a season four.”
What do you think? Will Lie to Me be back for season four or will it be cancelled? Will you be satisfied if this is the end?
In tonight’s season finale, “Killer App”, was one of the best pieces of acting I’ve ever seen, with Kelli Williams’ as Dr. Foster giving a statement to police about her arrival on the scene of the murder of her young friend. Deep emotions, perfectly nuanced.
I really hope the show continues on Fox. If not, I hope the CW channel picks it up.
What was the last line Lightman said in tonights episode?
I don’t have an answer for that one, love.
I don’t often comment regarding programming, but I’ll be really upset if this show doesn’t come back. I’m tired of watching dramas that leave relationships unresolved between the primary characters when it’s the reason most of us watch to begin with. This is a great show that blends science, mystery and relationships, and Tim Roth is outstanding. I’ve watched it since the first episode and I really hope this wasn’t the last.
Good show, should be continued!!!!
I find most tv shows to be pretty boring, however I have been an avid fan of Lie To Me since its original season. I think it is one of the more interesting and amusing shows on tv. I am really tired of the formula crime shows with car chases, shoot-outs, and police women in spike heels and tight dresses — what a joke! I like the way the characters on Lie To Me have evolved over the last few seasons and I am interested to see what the future holds from the primary characters. I really hope that the… Read more »
We love the series … and want it back for many more seasons… I am sure part of the reason for the prior lower ratings is the air time day being moved from one time slot to another .. it took us several weeks to find it .. resulting in missing the episodes … … we’ve ordered prior episodes from Netflix
WE WANT ” LIE TO ME ” back on the it is by far the best program on television.. …….
Please!! Please!! Don’t cancel Lie to Me it’s a great show, haven’t missed one yet! Gerat characters and actors. Love it!
I hope they don’t cancel this show! I can’t believe a few low numbers would cause Fox to let this series go. Every show on all the stations a clones of each other. Cops , Cops and more Cops!
Lie to me is my favorite show…..I hope they do not cancel it. The basis for this show has so much potential. I learn something each time I watch it 🙂
Please don’t cancel lie to me. It’s the only show it HAVE to watch weekly!

Best show on TV.
No, I will NOT be satisfied if tonight is the end. I just discovered this show on Netflix and watched all 35 episodes from Season 1 and 2 in a week. I then paid for the episodes of Season 3 that I missed on iTunes.
