This evening, FOX is airing the final episode of Lie to Me’s third season. Will the series be back for a fourth season or will it be cancelled? The answer may have a lot to do with how well the show performs tonight.
Last season, Lie to Me averaged a 2.9 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.03 million total viewers. This season has been a different story. The series hasn’t been performing nearly as well and FOX declined to give the series an order for the back nine, leaving the season at 13 installments. That’s often a sign that the network has given up on a series and will just use up what they have left.
So far this season, Lie to Me ranks near the bottom on the list of FOX’s scripted shows, averaged a 1.9 rating in the demo and 5.75 million viewers. On January 10th, a pair of episodes averaged a 1.6 in the demo and 5.46 million viewers. Based on those numbers you could be pretty sure that the show’s fate was sealed.

But then, the next week, Lie to Me registered a 20% gain in the demo. Last week, it saw an astounding 39% gain — moving up to a 2.5 rating and 7.67 million viewers. That represents a season high for the drama. If the series can sustain that rating tonight, it could be encouraging enough for FOX execs to greenlight a fourth season.
Despite the low ratings, the producers certainly don’t feel like the network has given up on Lie to Me. In a recent interview, showrunner Alex Cary said, “Fox has been very clear with us — they know what the show is, they know what it can do. [The ratings bump] shows that people will come watch the show.”
Cary also indicated that tonight’s finale goes to the heart of Lightman and Foster and their strong emotional bond. He noted, “We’re very happy with it. We think it will make the fans only more hungry for a season four.”
What do you think? Will Lie to Me be back for season four or will it be cancelled? Will you be satisfied if this is the end?
I love the show “Lie to Me”. Please do not cancel the show!!
We got into watching Lie to Me last season, and then found and then found and watched the first season on netflix. Our family loves it ages 13-36. I really hope they don’t cancel this show! Wish they would check hulu and netflix to see how much it is watched there also.
Brilliantly written! Brilliantly executed! Lie To Me is a cerebral television series that is choc full of quick wit, especially on the part of the show’s star, Tim Roth, who is an amazingly gifted actor. I’ve seen enough of his work to know that the characteristics of Doctor Cal Lightman are very much derrived from the actor himself. Lie To Me is a brilliant blend of drama and humor, thanks to Roth’s antics and innate ability to internalize. From the opening Montage which includes a close-up of the actor’s face, his brilliance begins from within and without! This is a… Read more »

I can not go back and market this show correctly but the fox exec in charge should be fired this is the best show on tv in both plot and casting I can’t express my discussed for the lack of stimulating intellect in the prime time tv audience!! The episode named: the core of it deserves every award known today!! If your a fan or not you will not miss an episode again!!!It sucks when shows like this one that are the best out there are overlooked because of marketing and the audience completely loyal are let down this badly!!!!!!!… Read more »
I think that Fox was finally getting it right! I love the current cerebral line they have like Bones,House, and Fringe! The Human Target and The Chicago Code gave some balance in the action genre. I love Lie To Me because of the scince involved and the quirkiness of Tim Roth. This is what good Tv used to be like and should continue to be like!!! I also watch Harry’s Law, Law and Order SVU and The Mentalist on the other networks, but Fox has been my main channel, even locally for the morning news. I wouls hate to see… Read more »
I’ve been addicted to this from the start. I don’t have the patience to watch House, Bones, Warehouse 13, etc. My Hulu.com experience has been pretty much limited to this and 30 Rock. However; season 3 seems to lack direction – or a direction I don’t find as interesting. I find myself not feeling like I’ll be heartbroken if it’s cancelled – yet I’ll watch every episode if they don’t (albeit not obsessively anymore).
please dont cant it i would go nuts im soo addicted to the show its crazy
My husband and I love lie to me, we look forward tom it every week…please do not cancel this great show…..
Please don’t cancel the show. House used to be my favorite show, until I saw an episode of Lie To Me. I recently watched all the shows I missed, online. It’s what I look forward to everyday when I get home from work. This show is what keeps me happy. PLEASE, PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW. THANK YOU.

I love Lie to Me. Please don’t cancel this show. It is the best show on Monday nights.
I just got myself to watching the season 3 finale, which kinda sucked. I use to really adore this show but season 3 was somewhat bad. Realistically, it doesn’t look like there is gonna be anymore but if season 4 does come out, I’m sure it will be the last season if they don’t improve.
