Why did CBS cancel Limitless? At this summer’s TCA press tour, network chief Glenn Geller explained why there will be no second season of the series, TVInsider reports.
Based on the 2011 film, the drama followed Brian Finch (Jake McDorman), who is given a special drug that unlocks 100% of his brain. The cast also included Jennifer Carpenter, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Hill Harper, and Colin Salmon.
During the panel, Geller said CBS cancelled Limitless because he didn’t “think it connected with the viewers”:
Ultimately we had to look at the show; it was a very good show, but I don’t think it connected with the viewers as well as other shows had. Yeah, we could have brought it back. But we also have to put on new shows and give other things a shot. It could have come back, but we have to do better; we want to improve time periods. That’s why we put on new shows.”
What do you think? Did you watch Limitless? Do you think the show should’ve been renewed?
Limitless has been a huge draw in gathering my family together, which is huge given the range of diverse activities that pull them in every direction except together. Bring it back, please.
Yes, it should have been renewed. Stop going on data all the time and talk to the viewers. Sometimes in data variables are not considered for each show. Poor choice in a cancellation.
Every time I get interested in a good show it gets cancelled. It seems if it has substance they kill it and if it is a dumbing of America reality series like hooker wife’s of some city or marry this guy from the Jersey Shore, or some kind of thoughtless dribble it lasts. If it has good writing and plots that make the viewer think for half a second we gotta cancel.
Limitless is honestly the BEST tv show I have ever watched. It shows the true dangers of drugs while it showed the life of Bryan Finch. Watching Bryan’s struggle with getting through life without getting himself killed. The experience of watching Bryan take on all the challenges that I faced him was very entertaining. Therefore I think CBS was very wrong in not continuing limitless
Another bone headed decision by clueless network execs. As far as drugs are concerned, I didn’t like the bong, but that was part of Brian’s persona. This show had so much potential, it’s disappointing to see it get cancelled.
“We have to do better”? Then do better by that show and work on making season 2 better and connect with viewers. If everything got canceled because the first season was bad then Star Trek TNG would never have made it.
I absolutely love the show and I’m so sad that they took it away!! Please bring it back!
I totally loved this show – great writing and characters, excellent acting, and I loved this particular blend of actors/actresses. Maybe it was a time-slot problem? As the finale ended, I thought, wow, what a great set-up for the next season – anything could happen. Except I sure didn’t think that CANCELLATION was what would happen!!! BAD DECISION. There are so many really unoriginal shows out there, this one had some real pep and life to it. Seriously bad decision.
Ugh. The only new television show that I watched in its entirety (Quantico came second with me needing to watch like 10 episodes). Way to go. Don’t make 800 more first responder shows to replace it please. This show was different, fun, and interesting. Bad decision.
I was so excited about more of this very clever, very entertaining show! I think the decision to cancel it shows how “out of touch” the ones making the decision actually are. You found a rock on the beach and tossed it away not realizing it was gold. Nice work. So I guess Brians bong was actually yours?
this is by far the best t.v show ever it connects with teens ,adults and many more because of its complex plot and interesting but fake story line…….you should of never of canceled this show….it caught my eye right away after watching i was hooked even faster than i got hooked watching pretty little liars…… please continue it…….
Didnt connect with the viewers? Which viewers was he talking to? Cancelling this show was the worst decision of last year between all of the networks. Crazy
Oh no! I’m not even through watching the first season on Netflix and now I find out I won’t have more to watch when it’s over?? Bad call, CBS. If you don’t think a show that plays on everyone’s wish to be the best version of themselves they can be……you’re seriously out of touch with people.
I love it please continue to make it. It’s great. I love the actors. Come guy don’t cancel it.
Yep. Clearly a mistake to cancel this show.
Clearly it was a mistake to start watching it. Knowing it’s canceled completely destroys it. This is more proof that network television is over. Top down programming is done, over, old. One guy calling the shots is going to bury these already failing networks.
Hopefully Netflix considers picking it up, but I doubt it.
