A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Lucifer without question is an ABSOLUTE masterpiece & gem… one of Fox’s greatest hit series…. It should be allowed to continue not only next season but for MANY more years to come…..
Please keep it!
My husband and I enjoy the show a lot. The dynamics are really interesting. We’d like it to continue.
Keep, keep, keep! Highly entertaining with satirical writing, excellent delivery by Ellis and huge potential for so many more story lines. An average 5 million viewers agree… Keep!
Keep it! It’s fun to watch. Interesting concept. Like it alot!
Keep it! It’s a fun show, good characters & writing.
I LOVE Lucifer! Have not missed and episode. The show has drama and crazy wit…Tom Ellis is a hoot, but a bad ass too. This show has earned another season a lot more so than others that are still being moved around in an attempt to find a fit! Lucifer is my Monday sin.
Lucifer has to stay in LA. He has so much more to do.
Keep!!!!!!!!! It’s a fresh show and it’s has really good plot lines and I love the action and the humor. Give the devil another season
Please keep it. I really don’t watch much television, but have not missed an episode of Lucifer. Tom Ellis gets better every week and his interactions with other cast members is just too good! This is a unique show that should be given a chance to develope a following.
Keep the show! I am Catholic and actually enjoy it. Lucifer is hilarious!
Love it. LOVE Tom Ellis, he is slaying it! Those eyes!
