A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Keep

The show is great!
It really wouldn’t surprise me if “a few hundred moms with too much time on their hands” are glued to the tv whenever Lucifer is on. They seem to know a lot about the show. Thanks moms for contributing to the ratings!
Great show! This is the only show on TV that I like to watch – so I really hope there will be next season!
Lucifer is the Best how on Fox in a very long time. The show had drama wit and great story line. Tom Ellis is best devil ever he needs to stay in LA lots of work to be done . Keep Lucifer on the air ! We love it !!!
Lucifer is the only show I watch. It is entertaining but also has a message. It deserves to stay. The acting is great and the writing good. You have my vote
Keep! I love this show!
A keeper
Loving Lucifer. Keep for sure!
Keep it, for sure. There’s a great story arc, a fresh look at a well known theology. It’s a coming off age story for The Devil that calls into question what we believe we know.
