While fans of Magic City are understandably upset by the show’s cancellation, Starz CEO Chris Albrecht recently explained that the decision wasn’t a difficult one when it came to finances.
At the TCA press tour, he said, “It was a fine show but it was extremely expensive. It had decent audience but distributors weren’t interested in co-marketing it with us, and we felt season two had a pretty reasonable and satisfying landing spot.”
Magic City revolves around the world of Miami’s Miramar Playa Hotel in 1959. The TV series stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olga Kurylenko, and Danny Huston, with Steven Strait, Christian Cooke, Jessica Marais, Yul Vazquez, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Kelly Lynch, and Elena Satine.
What do you think? Did you like Magic City? Would you liked to have seen a third season?
I can’t believe it’s cancelled! I was just telling a friendand the other night how good it was, and she said she’d heard that from several people and was going to check out next season but saw it was cancelled. I had NO idea! I’m so upset – this show was spectacular. With all the horrible TV these days, I can’t believe Starz would cancel such a riveting drama with such great acting. It was the best thing about the Starz network! This is a terrible decision!
OMG they always take the good shows off. Bring back Magic City i been waiting for season 3.
Loved the show. Absolutely shocked when I found out it was canceled. Everything about it was great. They should bring it back or another network should pick it up.
This was a great series with wonderful lead actors. Truly surprised
and saddened that the show was canceled.
I loved this series and will really miss it.
Bring back Magic City
BRING BACK MAGIC CITY!!
I miss Magic City. So disappointed it wasn’t renewed, or given to another network that would have made the investment.
Starz is crazy! Magic City was so good. Maybe HBO or Showtime should pick up the show!
Loved the show. Well done period piece. It was interesting to see mob-based themes that weren’t based in Chicago or NY. I find Miami to be much more interesting than the tired old settings. And working in the real-world recent events involving Cuba is terrific.
Not only the story involved Castro’s takeover of Cuba during the first 2 seasons; season 3 could have covered one of the most controversial U.S. Elections in history, and the mob connections to it. Also you have the “Bay of Pigs” incident and possibly the “Cuban Missile Crisis”. Along with Meg’s subsequent takeover of the Miramar Playa Hotel, not to mention the return of Ben Diamond! (You know he will be back).

I truly do not understand networks cancelling good shows, awesome show, could do without all the nudity in the scenes. A series has to captivate my interest from the start. This show did that and more. What a waste! going back to reading books, with books u do finally get to the ending. No threats of network cancellations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You had a hit! With a little more advertising, you could have had a lucrative audience!
I thought the show pretty much depicted the way it was back then. It was very interesting to follow the characters and the way they morphed into the story. I would like to see someone rethink the decision and bring it back.
I love this show can’t believe that Starz cancelled it. I want to see a season 3 .
