HBO has ordered the Mogadishu, Minnesota TV series pilot. The drama comes from The Hurt Locker‘s Kathryn Bigelow. Mogadishu, Minnesota is described by Variety as, “a family drama that grapples with what it means to be American, among the Somalis of Minneapolis.” Reportedly, when Mogadishu, Minnesota was in development, it was said to give a “glimpse into the world of Jihadi recruitment.”
K’naan Warsame, (Keinan Abdi Warsame) a Somali-Canadian singer, song-writer, poet, and musician, is writing and directing. He will executive produce Mogadishu, Minnesota with Bigelow and Carolyn Strauss. Strauss has executive produced Game of Thrones and Treme, as well as Luck, starring Dustin Hoffman, which was renewed for a second season on HBO. Luck was cancelled while season two was in production, due to animal welfare concerns, after three horses died.
What do you think? Do you like the sound of the Mogadishu, Minnesota TV show pilot? If it is ordered to series, do you plan to check it out?
