What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the CMT cable channel, Nashville continues to follow the lives and careers of country music superstars Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) and Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton). Both women face personal and professional challenges as they navigate their paths as artists and individuals. Surrounding them and often complicating their lives are their family, friends and, in some cases, lovers, as well as the up-and-coming performers and songwriters trying to get ahead in the business. The Nashville TV show cast also includes Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Sam Palladio, Chris Carmack, Jonathan Jackson, Lennon Stella, and Maisy Stella. Recurring are David Alford, Ed Amatrudo, Kourtney Hansen, Scott Reeves, Kyle Dean Massey, Rhiannon Giddens, Bridgit Mendler, Jen Richards, Murray Bartlett, Cameron Scoggins, Joseph David-Jones, Joanie Stewart, and Christian Coulson. Will Chase guest stars as Luke Wheeler.
Season Five Ratings
The fifth season of Nashville averaged a 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 815,000 viewers. Compared to season four on ABC, Nashville is down by 80% in the demo and down by 81% in viewers. Find out how Nashville stacks up against other CMT TV shows.
On April 10, 2017, Nashville was renewed for a sixth season which will debut in January 2018. On November 27, 2017, CMT announced Nashville will end with season six. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Although Nashville’s season five ratings may seem abysmal when compared to season four, that’s really a case of comparing apples to oranges. The first four seasons of this country music business drama aired on ABC — a major broadcast network — whereas season five is on the much smaller CMT cable channel. So far, CMT has been issuing press releases touting the ratings records Nashville has broken for them. What’s more, CMT has a deal with Hulu which allows the streaming service to run episodes the day after their CMT debut. This defrays CMT’s outlay for the series. While I cannot guarantee CMT will renew Nashville for a sixth season, don’t let the ratings convince you the show is doomed to cancellation. I suspect it will be back for season six.

Was ecstatic that Nashville returned, hope it’s not cancelled again! Will be a BIG disappointment to all Nashville fans! Even with Connie Britton gone, although she will be missed, there are still plenty of stories to tell to us viewers with the other talents on the show! PLEASE DON’T CANCEL!
Please renew! Even with Rayna gone there are so many places the story can go.

Hi. I hope you will continue the series to a Season 6. It will take on a new twist, without Rayna, but it will do fine
Like to see season 6. Should not have killed off Reyna. Shocker
Please renew NASHVILLE for a sixth season. I have never had access to cable and only ever watched the show on Hulu. I look forward to it EVERY WEEK!!
There is one problem with your theory. THEY JUST KILLED OFF CONNIE BRITTON’S CHARACTER who happens to be THE LEAD STAR OF THE SHOW! To top it all off, Lyin’ Connie Britton, who went on the record several times by stating that she was “in it for the duration….we love our fans” was the one that actually chose to leave….all over “NASHVILLE’S POLITICS!” Thanks, Connie, for slapping the fans in the face after working so hard to get this show renewed. Thanks for also guaranteeing that this show likely won’t get renewed again as well, as I have never seen… Read more »
I agree with John above. Connie lied and said she was in until the end and she knew she was leaving the show. I will never watch anything with her in it again. That was not nice for you to keep your fans in limbo like that Connie. Shame on you. I am totally through with Nashville after not missing a one show since it has been on. The reason is that this show only comes on when they feel like it and the fans are waiting and the show is not on with know information why. Good Bye Nashville,… Read more »
Please renew Nashville.I Love this Show.
Please keep Nashville going. Unfortunately Suddenlink does not carry the CMT channel, so I have the girls over to watch it on Dish. We all love it.
Please give us a Season 6 – give it a chance to be seen. Many people (myself included) do not have access to CMT. I had to switch carriers in order to get it. Now I am catching up on demand. I love this season more than the last – getting back to the GREAT music, and happier, more intriguing storylines. KEEP MORE SEASONS COMING PLEASE!!!!
