What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the CMT cable channel, Nashville continues to follow the lives and careers of country music superstars Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) and Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton). Both women face personal and professional challenges as they navigate their paths as artists and individuals. Surrounding them and often complicating their lives are their family, friends and, in some cases, lovers, as well as the up-and-coming performers and songwriters trying to get ahead in the business. The Nashville TV show cast also includes Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Sam Palladio, Chris Carmack, Jonathan Jackson, Lennon Stella, and Maisy Stella. Recurring are David Alford, Ed Amatrudo, Kourtney Hansen, Scott Reeves, Kyle Dean Massey, Rhiannon Giddens, Bridgit Mendler, Jen Richards, Murray Bartlett, Cameron Scoggins, Joseph David-Jones, Joanie Stewart, and Christian Coulson. Will Chase guest stars as Luke Wheeler.
Season Five Ratings
The fifth season of Nashville averaged a 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 815,000 viewers. Compared to season four on ABC, Nashville is down by 80% in the demo and down by 81% in viewers. Find out how Nashville stacks up against other CMT TV shows.
On April 10, 2017, Nashville was renewed for a sixth season which will debut in January 2018. On November 27, 2017, CMT announced Nashville will end with season six. Stay tuned for further updates.
Telly’s Take
Although Nashville’s season five ratings may seem abysmal when compared to season four, that’s really a case of comparing apples to oranges. The first four seasons of this country music business drama aired on ABC — a major broadcast network — whereas season five is on the much smaller CMT cable channel. So far, CMT has been issuing press releases touting the ratings records Nashville has broken for them. What’s more, CMT has a deal with Hulu which allows the streaming service to run episodes the day after their CMT debut. This defrays CMT’s outlay for the series. While I cannot guarantee CMT will renew Nashville for a sixth season, don’t let the ratings convince you the show is doomed to cancellation. I suspect it will be back for season six.

What do you think? Are you glad that the Nashville TV show has been renewed for season six on CMT? How many seasons do you think this TV show should last?
I have loved Nashville from its first airing. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS PROGRAM!!!!
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW!!!
I have been a fan of Nashville from the beginning. Please find a way to keep it going. There aren’t many as good.
Why cancel such a great show? Maybe CMT is not getting enough revenue? I do not see how that is possible since they have a deal with HULU. They can also sell the reruns of season 5 to AXS TV. If this is the last season, it is time for Gunnar and Scarlett to get together, I would like to see Deacon happy with someone, love Charles Esten; I do hope that Juliette and Avery become a happy family. I hope they will reconsider cancelling, but if not, I do hope they give all of the characters a good send-off.
I’m so happy there will be a season 6. It’s my favourite programme. Can’t wait for the new season.
Oh, I would like for Nashville to last forever !!For me its the best show ever. The actors feel like familie to me. Please continue please !!
I almost forgot about Gunner. He is becoming too good for Scarlett. Please find a new love interest that sings great harmony with him. Preferably someone famous. I would like to see him happy now please. Tired of the sad puppy look. Will needs to find out he is bi, so we can see him with women.
The show Nashville is the ONLY reason I have hulu. I enjoy all the characters except Scarlett. Of course, that is because the writers see her as being broken. I liked the old Scarlett. I watch the show for Deacon. It was never about Reyna. I am a fixer so I really like his flawed personality blossoming into the man he has become. of course kid drama is fun to watch. Juliette is awesome. Loved her in heroes. Both her and Deacon are the most talented.
Killing off Rayna? What were they thinking? This show had me hooked infinitely and I don’t even enjoy country music. It just shows how disconnected writers are from the real fans. You are needlessly dooomed now from your idiocy.
I love the show, but they made a mistake killing off Rayna. And it’s hard to watch when you don’t have cable…
The best writing and story lines ever this season! Unfortunately I was one that didn’t realize it was back on and now catching up with On-Demand. The good news is I can now binge watch!
His names’ Charles Esten =p And THANK GOD, I was holding my breath for a minute there. I need more music to download, too!
–Clare Bowen and Sam Palladio did a great version of the Beauty and the Beast song for some Disney thing – random note to those who care.
Glad to hear that Nashville will be back. But I am concerned about hownit will fare without Connie. That’s a huge loss.
I thought they already said season ) is definitely happening..I could swear I heard what’s his name (Deacon..I’m too tired to think of his real name) but I swear he’s already said they will be back for season 6.
I was waiting to see the start of season five on ABC and a few weeks after I expected it to start I happened on a tiny advertisement on a random tv station for the show. Whaaat? What do you mean it’s on another station? What happened? I researched it out and refound Nashville on CMT and I was 5 episodes behind! So delighted to find it wasn’t cancelled, bawled my eyes out the last 3 episodes and now praying it hasn’t been cancelled again. I think the abysmal season 5 ratings are due to the fact most fans don’t… Read more »
This is exactly what happened to us. How were we to know to look for Nashville on a different network? It was by accident that we found it again at all.
There’s this thing called the internet, it has search engines. Type in a question and usually you can find a answer. That is how you find out information. Heck, their social media blitz alone ..
