After struggling for years in the ratings, it seems that NBC is really starting to turn things around. Of course, they still have their challenges. Which NBC TV shows will be cancelled and which will be renewed? Stay tuned!
NBC shows this season (so far): A to Z, About a Boy, AD: The Bible Continues: Allegiance, America’s Got Talent, American Ninja Warrior, American Odyssey, Aquarius, Bad Judge, The Biggest Loser, The Blacklist, The Celebrity Apprentice, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Constantine, Dateline, Dateline Saturday Night Mystery, Grimm, Hannibal, Hollywood Game Night, I Can Do That, The Island, Last Comic Standing, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Marry Me, Mr. Robinson, The Mysteries of Laura, The Night Shift, One Big Happy, Parenthood, Parks and Recreation, Running Wild with Bear Grylls, The Sing-Off, The Slap, State of Affairs, Undateable, The Voice, and Welcome to Sweden.
There’s lots of data that NBC looks at when deciding whether to renew or cancel a TV series but the ratings are typically the biggest piece. Here’s how the network’s shows are doing.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here and here.
A couple of notes about these charts:
These figures are updated automatically as new ratings are released. The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing), unless marked with an asterisk (*). For technical reasons, I have to resort them manually so feel free to let me know if I missed something.
Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach.
Demo numbers are typically reported using the 10ths decimal place (2.4, for example). In the averages, I’m using an extra decimal for easier ranking. The networks take into account when shows air on Fridays and Saturdays, nights when TV viewership is lower.
What do you think? Which shows are you rooting for? Which one isn’t as big a hit as you thought? Are you hoping any series will get cancelled to make way for something else?
Well, there were a number of shows that I loved on regular TV this year. Unfortunately the 2 I liked the most were both cancelled, one by CBS and one by NBC. Both were quality shows and not stupid shows about stupid people. Since none of the networks actually let a series develop, there is no reason to watch and get involved only to see it cancelled after one season. My time is much better spent on Cable TV, where the shows develop with little chance of cancellation. Therefore, I will stop watching Network TV, since you are only interested… Read more »
Loved the show A.D The Bible Continues. I liked it better than “The Bible”. I think it would have done better if it had been scheduled to conclude on Easter, rather than Easter be the start date. Powerful, thought provoking, the actors given real plot lines were excellent. It showed the fears, doubts, and spiritual journeys of less than perfect people. I have recommended it to people as one of the best Bible based shows I have seen. I don’t usually buy DVD sets but this one I do intend to buy. It’s that good.
Please, please continue the story!!!!
I really like Hannibal. I rarely watch network TV anymore because little of it can compare to quality of what is being shown on cable, but Hannibal does. Looking forward to the appearance of The Red Dragon in July.
I just warched Season 1 of Aquarius. It is great! Please renew with Season 2.
I made a typo, should be “watched”.
American Odyssey best show on TV. An adult script. Whoa, what a concept. Keep this show, dump the 20 something hogwash.
please finish surface the series i just found it on netflix and it was the most riveting show i have ever seen.
Please bring about a boy back we watched it every week
I wish they would bring about a boy back I loved that show I watched it every week from day one
So far all of my shows have made the cut. I have all of the episodes of American Odyssey on my DVR, but have yet to watch them. When will we know if the show has been renewed or not?
The Blacklist and American Odyssey are wonderful – full of talent and original story lines. I love American Odyssey but the thought of season after season waiting for her to get home, really bothers me. This should have been a miniseries. Nothing, nothing had better happen to Aslam (Omar Ghazaoui – the new Moroccan actor – acting for the first time in his life) – he is the only one on the show with any common sense. Odell is in lala land. I would not object to the Decker family being flown to the Artic. Harrison is too stupid to… Read more »
Totally rooting for The Blacklist to have, hopefully, a long and satisfying run. Just got done with the season two finale yesterday and in severe withdrawal waiting for the third season to come in!
Can’t wait to see how the plot continues to unfold with all its unexpected twists and turns.
My three fave shows are Mysteries of Laura, Allegiance and American Odyssey. And just when I was thinking that NBC had finally moved beyond sitcoms and police/hospital shows to something with way more meat on it’s bones, you canceled two of those. I don’t know who you are polling (no one ever asks me) but I love how these two shows are full of intrigue and suspense! And the filming of American Odyssey is superb. I saw that Chicago Fire and Chicago PD were both renewed. I used to be a fan of both of these but I have actually… Read more »
I never watched NBC until this season I really liked 2 shows. Allegiance and State of Affairs and you have cancelled both. Really disappointed won’t be back to NBC.
Great show…congrats….
I absolutely love Gotham, The mysteries of Laura and night shift!!!! All these shows should be renewed they are all different and great story lines- I wish night shift was a regular season long program I think you would bring in more viewers if it Rama full season instead of this shortened one- Chicago Fire Chicago Pd and law and order Alo my top favorites of the main TV channels- and off main grid Nirthwoods Law on the animal planet is my all time favorite – real stories- real situations and the wardens get to show all sides of their… Read more »
