It’s time for San Antonio Memorial’s emergency room night shift staff to clock out. The Night Shift TV show has been cancelled after four seasons on NBC. The medical drama first premiered in of May of 2014. It ran as a summer series, except in season two, when it was a mid-season replacement.
Airing on the NBC television network, The Night Shift stars Robert Bailey Jr., Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, Brendan Fehr, Scott Wolf, Tanaya Beatty, and JR Lemon, with Mark Consuelos recurring in season four. The series centers on the quirky, yet extraordinary emergency room night shift at San Antonio Memorial, who’ll risk almost anything to save their patients.
The Night Shift: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of The Night Shift averaged a 0.66 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.96 million viewers. Compared to season three, it was down by 32% and down by 21%, respectively. The Night Shift did not stack up well against other NBC TV shows. Even among the Peacock Network’s summer series, it earned pretty low ratings, so the cancellation makes sense.
Here is more on The Night Shift cancellation, from NBC, via Deadline:
“We want to thank our amazing creators and executive producers, Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, for their dedication and stellar work; a cast and crew that were second to none; and the city of Albuquerque, N.M., which graciously opened its arms to us,” said Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment. “For four seasons The Night Shift gave audiences a window to heroic doctors, nurses and all-star medical workers who never hesitated to give their blood, sweat and time to help those most in need.”
What do you think? Should NBC have cancelled or renewed The Night Shift TV series for a fifth season? Were you still watching it? Sound off, in the comments.
I’m very upset!! I don’t get to watch much tv and when it came out on Netflix that was a binge worthy show! A great story line and I love the actors! I didn’t even see it advertised on regular tv, I thought it was a Netflix series… #netflix #pickupnightshift
The show was awesome why would you cancel such a great show… had you advertised it more it would have been a bigger hit…blame yourselves NBC it surely wasn’t the actors or story line!!
The show should have been renewed. There are more viewers outside of the 18-49 bracket. Maybe you should change your demographic to 50 and up.
Why the hell would this show be cancelled? So much crap in tv nowadays and they wanna take away another goody. The show is amazing. Bring it back.
This was a wonderful cast. Great acting why in the world was this cancelled? This is ridiculous. Great live rescue and lots of military. Why did you cancel season 5, so stupid the Night shift is great
I have been waiting for Night Shift to return. Why was the series so short to begin with. Please bring it back.
Why do they always cancel or stop the good shows/series? Please bring back the Night Shift with a season 5!!!
Please Bring this Show back. THE night shift is such an amazing show. Bring back for more seasons!!!!
Bring back the night shift!!!
Love this show! Apparently no one who pays attention to people who DVR this show were included in the equation to cancel. Shame on you. I know Netflix takes movies included in the “save” section does.
Just watch the four season on Netflix. Please bring this back! This is one of my favorites shows!
Please bring the night shift back!! It’s one of my favorites and one of those shows you can really relate with.. If not nbc; Netflix’s take the lead!!
Please bring this show back, I can’t believe it was cancelled. It’s such a great show. Netflix, please pick this show up!!
I cant believe you cancelled this series. Its a good series to watch. It shows people what medics really do in the field. How bout instead of canceling it for TV make it a Netflix original. Think about you will get more views since people use Netflix now a days instead of watching TV because there is no commercials. I’m not telling you what to do I’m just asking you guys to reconsider
I can’t believe you are cancelling this program. It is one of the few shows both my husband and I enjoy. Being a member of the medical profession, I find it very entertaining, I agree with the many other viewers in asking you to reconsider your decision
