First, FOX cancelled Lone Star and then, ABC cancelled My Generation. Not wanting to be left out, NBC has now cancelled Outlaw. The Jimmy Smits series has ceased production but viewers will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Outlaw follows a Supreme Court Justice (Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer in order to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
The series debuted following the season finale of one of NBC’s biggest shows, America’s Got Talent, and could only attract moderate ratings. In its regular Friday night timeslot, Outlaw’s ratings have gone from bad to worse. This past Friday, the show hit a new low in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.9 rating and fell to just 4.10 million viewers. It was in last place in both categories.

As we previously reported, NBC shut down production last week, supposedly wanting to wait to see if viewership got better in later weeks. If that was actually the case, they didn’t wait very long. Outlaw has been cancelled and the cast and crew won’t be returning to production.
For the time being, NBC will fill the 10pm timeslot with an expanded edition of Dateline. The four remaining episodes of Outlaw will be seen on Saturday nights starting on October 16th. An episode won’t be seen on October 30th because of a previously schedule Shrek special. The last episode of Outlaw will air on November 13th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see it go? Why do you think it didn’t attract a bigger audience?

Well tonight is the premiere of Harry’s Law looks pretty promising a fan favorite actress in a court drama with a little comedy thrown in – sound familiar. Some advice Kathy Bates don’t get too comfortable you might want to look for a job now cause you will be unemployed here in three weeks. How can a station that had it all back in the 80s and 90s fall so far in just ten years. Take a chance on a show once in awhile and maybe you will find a hit show again. Outlaw was a outstanding show with great… Read more »
Another great show cancelled! Stupid NBC
As I look through all the comments, I see that I agree with the majority of the people!!! NBC cancelled Outlaw without really giving it a chance. Friday night! I mean really, give a good show a chance on a popular night and time. As far as I’m concerned NBC might be able to redeem itself by getting rid of all the ridiculous reality(unreality) shows, and put Outlaw back on!!!!!!
OK…………………………….I’m a real fan of Jimmy Smits. Have been for a long long time. It seems as though somebody out there in LaLaWood has a serious wish to see Mr. Smits living under a bridge ………….everything he’s a main character in gets cancelled. The show Cane was awesome, perhaps even a little better than the latest cancelled show “Outlaw”. Whoever you are, whatever your problem is with Jimmy Smits, please get over it because there are those of us out here who think Mr. Smits is far better than the majority of TV junk that’s shoved down our throats these… Read more »
I loved this show, the writing for Jimmy Smits was fantastic, it fit him perfectly.
I tried to give this program every chance but it never appealed to me. The biggest problem was Jimmy Smits he is one of the most overrated actors on TV in my opinion. Sometimes a program can succeed in spite of a poor lead actor but not in this case. NBC made a great decision in getting rid of this poor program.
I loved this show. compared to other shows that start off good and then turn in to SEX shows this was decent enough to watch with the kids. I love Jimmy Smitts and it was great to see him back on tv. The other cast was great as well and they worked well together. I am so disappointed that you canceled. I’m sure the reason why the rating went down was because it was too “clean”. I can stand when new shows come on and you think you’ve found something good that the entire family can watch and by the… Read more »
I loved this show!!! I was very unhappy when I found it was cancelled. I am a huge fan of Jimmy Smits and felt his role was fresh and the story line was real. I agree that NBC made a huge mistake in canceling the show. Jimmy deserves to be on a network that recognizes his talent!!!
this show was setup for failure even before its first episode aired because it was given a terrible time slot. Who watches TV on friday nights? There was no way this show would last and NBC execs did not want it to last. I hope CBS or ABC picks this show up the same way “The Game” was picked up by BET after the shabby CW dropped it.
I loved this show! Very sad that they cancelled it do soon. It probably needed a better timeslot.
Im upset it was canceled. I watched it on Fridays when normally i would have been out. I think because it was on Friday. The show was very good and based on stuff that is going on today in our country. They should have switched night and now canceled it so soon. That sucks.
I cant get through a series very oftened these days but I loved this one alot and I loves West wing with him onit it really sucks I think I would love to see this get put back on and I loves Truma to and they took that away to. We are getting to the point why watch TV there is nothing on,
It sucks! These networks don’t even give a show a chance to make it ! It is the best show that came on in a very long time. Jimmy Smits was brilliant as were the rest of the cast!
another great job in decision making to the suits. i stopped watching nbc for poor show content. i gave you another chance and you blew it. but i will take responsibilty for this…… for the definition of a idot ..is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. i give you chances over and over. but get the same result from you. guess i am the true meaning of an idiot.
I really lime this show. Very realistic and excellent casting
NBC has really screwup by eliminating this high potential family show
