We’ve received quite a few e-mails from readers who are been worried that Parenthood has been cancelled by NBC. Well, it hasn’t been canned and will actually be returning on January 4th. That’s the good news but fans shouldn’t get too complacent. The drama hasn’t been performing all that well and certainly isn’t assured of a third season.
Last May, Parenthood was one of those shows that was “on the bubble” but still ended up being renewed. Though season one premiered with a 3.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.1 million viewers, it soon after dropped to a 2.3 rating and 5.83 million viewers. The 13 episodes of season one ended up averaging a 2.6 in the demo and 6.38 million total viewers.
For season two, Parenthood debuted at about the same demo rating it had at the end of season one. Unfortunately, that didn’t last. In mid-November, shortly before it went on hiatus, Parenthood hit a series low of a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.8 million viewers.
The first half of the season has averaged a 2.1 in the demo and 5.22 million. Parenthood is currently the seventh-highest rated scripted program on the network, falling in the middle of the list, just below The Event. While it’s not in immediate danger of being cancelled, the show’s certainly not safe either. Its fate will ultimately be decided by how well it performs when it returns from the six week hiatus. Most shows don’t typically fare very well and ratings drop after a hiatus. Will Parenthood be the exception?
What do you think? Will the ratings for Parenthood go up or down? Will it be cancelled or survive to see season three?

I Love this show. It is the best show on TV ever! Please do not take it off. It is real family Life
I love Parenthood. It is one of the best shows on TV. I have recomended this show to many people.
This is a show for everyone of all age groups. It would be sad to let it go. I am in my 50’s and I look forward to see what the Bravermans will do next.
One of the best shows I’ve seen in a while. Characters are wonderful and they go through many experiences that real families go through. The Bravermans love and support each other. I think we need to still believe that family is everything and it’s been a long time since I’ve seen that portrayed on TV. It would be criminal to take it off the air.
I just recently started watching. I rented season 1 and watched every episode up to the season 2 finale. I for one, would be devastated if they canceled this show!
Please DO NOT CANCEL this show. It is sooo well written and much better than most other shows which are just drivil. Most TV is not worth my time but this show is one I try never to miss.
My husband and I are older folks (70’s) and really enjoy the show and would be so disappointed if it does not survive, we have seen all the DR shows shootem ups and this show is more in tune with today’s times, all the folks in it are really great!
It is shocking that such a well written, acted, topical, and smart show is in danger of being cancelled…my whole extended family looks forward to watching and discussing this show every week…it is thought provoking, and inspiring, and one of the best shows on all of television…it should be given a chance to find and build its audience…or another channel should snap it up. Go Bravermans!
I love Parenthood, please do not take it off the air, it is great !!
Please do not even consider taking Parenthood off the air! Lots of great characters, good plots and true life lessons…unless you live in a bubble. Great show! Autism spectrum kids is widespread and much mis- understood.
OMG! Please dont cancel this show!! Why do they need to take all the good ones off the aire?! We look forward to every Tuesday night – its a show that we can relate to.
Parenthood has proven to be a very true to life series that families can certainly relate to. There are so few shows worth watching these days. I hope Parenthood remains on the air. I love it!
BEST SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN! I DON’T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO WITHOUT IT!
PLEASE keep this show! It is one that is superbly written and brilliantly cast! The dialogue is realistic and the characters are deep and every fan cares about them. Don’t cancel the Bravermans!
Don’t cancel another great show. Parenthood has substance and a fantastic story line. There are very few quality shows left. If you cancel Parenthood, I will give up on TV and watch Netflix exclusively.
