We’ve received quite a few e-mails from readers who are been worried that Parenthood has been cancelled by NBC. Well, it hasn’t been canned and will actually be returning on January 4th. That’s the good news but fans shouldn’t get too complacent. The drama hasn’t been performing all that well and certainly isn’t assured of a third season.
Last May, Parenthood was one of those shows that was “on the bubble” but still ended up being renewed. Though season one premiered with a 3.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.1 million viewers, it soon after dropped to a 2.3 rating and 5.83 million viewers. The 13 episodes of season one ended up averaging a 2.6 in the demo and 6.38 million total viewers.
For season two, Parenthood debuted at about the same demo rating it had at the end of season one. Unfortunately, that didn’t last. In mid-November, shortly before it went on hiatus, Parenthood hit a series low of a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.8 million viewers.
The first half of the season has averaged a 2.1 in the demo and 5.22 million. Parenthood is currently the seventh-highest rated scripted program on the network, falling in the middle of the list, just below The Event. While it’s not in immediate danger of being cancelled, the show’s certainly not safe either. Its fate will ultimately be decided by how well it performs when it returns from the six week hiatus. Most shows don’t typically fare very well and ratings drop after a hiatus. Will Parenthood be the exception?
What do you think? Will the ratings for Parenthood go up or down? Will it be cancelled or survive to see season three?

PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW – I LOVE IT!!!
Agree that it’s a great show, but was very disappointed in the sink sex scene. Geez, don’t people realize that most of us home watching the show are parents! Why would you try to raise ratings by doing something that’s only going to offend and turn people off.
One of the best written and acted shows on t.v. In fact, one of the only shows that you can actually identify with and see yourself and your family dealing with some of the same issues. NBC does not have many “spectacular ” shows as it once did but they picked a gem with this one.
Pleassse don’t cancel the show. I look forward to Tuesdays to watch it it. It is the BEST show on tv. I post on facebook all the time how great it is& people are wanting to watch it from the beginning. I will be so disappointed to see it go.
I can’t believe that NBC would consider canceling. Finally a show that has content that all ages can relate to without violence, blood and drugs. This show reminds me of the show twenty something from back in the 80’s. Please allow us loyal viewers the opportunity to watch this wonderful family to grow and see how the relationships unfold!
I am praying that Parenthood stays on the TV. It is such a quality show. Characters, actors and writing staff are all excellent. Can somebody please ask Oprah to take over the show so it doesn’t go off the air. A lot of the stuff on TV today is just not that good. I like watching TV and I only find watching Parenthood worthwhile and satisfying. Keep Jasmine and Crosby together. They were fun to watch.
Please do not cancel Parenthood and don’t break up the Dax Shephard and Joy Byrant characters. They represent modern interracial couples and there needs to be positive interracial relationships on TV. Don’t always go for the obvious that interracial couples don’t make it when that is not true.
Keep parenthood on the air!
please dont!! my family loves this show. i always look forward to this show after a long day with the kids. i think i keeps me sane to know other’s have the same problems, and i get great parenting tip’s!!! PLEASE DONT CANCEL IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have watched all shows from inception but this week was not good. Graphic sex scenes totally unnecessary. Will stop watching if this continues. It is a great family show and thoroughly enjoy it other than this week…Please stay with the fairly wholesome family concept….Thanks
What we have here is the best-written NBC drama up against the best-written CBS drama, “The Good Wife”. If quality counted for anything, there would be no chance of losing “Parenthood”. But all that matters is ratings & the sponsors’ advertising. With Minka Kelly leaving to star in “Charlie’s Angels”, you see what I mean.
This is the very best acting on a TV show i have seen in years!! If its taken off in the air i think it will be a hugh mistake. All my girlfrinds and my husband love this show…i take it and sometimes watch it again over the weekend!! There are so many crime investigation shows on currently and while they are also good, please, we need some variety and Parenthood is different than any show on at the current time. Love the addition of John Corbett…adorable….. I think the networks make a mistake by taking new shows off the… Read more »
I love this show and record it and have made the comment to many viewers it has been clean UNTIL last night Feb 15,2011 so disappointed they had 3 different scenes with cast have sex, come on people this is not necessary to keep ratings. it could have been done in a tasteful way, married couple yes, but why did you have to ruin it. please reconsider, only program that I was comfortable with to view with my grandchildren. help there are a lot of us out here who feel the same way. thanks
Please dont cancel parenthood, its a great show with a great cast.
