Things were a little touch and go for awhile but NBC has now renewed Parenthood for a sixth season. It will be the last season and the cast and crew will have 13 episodes to say goodbye.
Parenthood revolves around the lives of the extended Braverman family in Northern California. The ensemble cast includes Lauren Graham, Dax Shepard, Tyree Brown, Joy Bryant, Max Burkholder, Erika Christensen, Miles Heizer, Sam Jaeger, Monica Potter, Savannah Paige Rae, Xolo Mariduena, Mae Whitman, with Bonnie Bedelia and Craig T. Nelson.
The series has never been a ratings hit for NBC but it has remained a pretty consistent performer with a devoted fanbase. This season, the ratings took a pretty dramatic downturn, dropping 20-30% compared to the fourth season. Shows like Revolution, Growing Up Fisher, and Believe all had better ratings but they were cancelled.
The network wanted to cut costs so they could bring the large ensemble series back for a final season but members of the cast reportedly didn’t want to agree to a smaller-than-usual episode guarantee. A compromise was eventually made.
We should have a better idea this week when season six will begin airing.
What do you think? Are you glad that Parenthood has been renewed for a final season? Would you like to see a seventh season or do you think this is the right time to end it?
I am a big fan of the show, I really enjoy watching it. I wish it was not being cancelled,
So heartbroken to hear that this is the finale season. I look forward every week to this show…it keeps me laughing and crying the whole time… it is such a “real” show about things we all can relate to. Definitely nothing on TV like it in my opinion. I fell in love with the braverman family…and learned a lot from their storylines
Dear NBC, My wife and I never miss an episode. Have been faithful watchers since the 1st show. We always say, with only 5-10 minutes to go, “that is the fastest hour on TV”. So many topics and episodes, that one can relate too. We absolutely love it, and feel sad that others must have never got hooked on it from the start. When we see programs like Honey Boo-Boo, Finding Bigfoot, and Alaska Bush People, we could almost throw up, at the thought of a great cast of characters being let go, and a very fine and true to… Read more »
Our favorite show. Hate to see it leaving.
I love parenthood I hate that they want to end this show like that it’s really a good family show don’t want to see no more reality shows on TV, NBC is really making me upset who decision do it be anyway I mean they don’t send surveys to the people who watch the program really sadness me! I’m really upset by this decision!
My husband and I look forward to each episode of Parenthood. This is the only realistic series on tv. If we have to be away we ALWAYS RECORD IT so we do not miss an episode. NBC, please change your mind. I believe the other series you did not renew were nothing compared to Parenthood and I watched Revolution occasionally. What a mistake you will be making NBC but it will not be your first one will it?
I guess NBC has made up its mind….too bad. Reading a lot of comments here, one thing is evident. You are taking a wholesome, non-violent, family friendly show away. Replace it with what? Another reality show? It’s so sad. But I get it….reality shows are cheap to produce. I find it hard to believe that it was a ratings issue. If it was, what did NBC do to correct it? Parenthood is a show about real life…real people. The Bravermans are a normal family with real problems. We watch them every week struggle through downfalls and we celebrate their triumphs.… Read more »
I love, love, love this show!!!!! We need more shows like Parenthood!!!!! PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL!!!!!!!!!!
This is my favorite show on TV. I am devastated. I don’t know what is wrong with you. How do you cancel such a warm, thought provoking loving show? I’ll never understand you network bigwigs. This is the first time I’ve ever written on the cancellation of a show. I am just furious. If I ever have to debate about what station to support, believe me, I’ll never choose NBC!!! You’re sick & your taste sickens me.
I cleaned up my language. This isn’t even close to what I wanted to say to you.
One of my absolute favorites! Can’t believe it’s being cancelled while there are so many less quality shows remaining on TV. Cast was excellent, hate to see the saga end!
Love this show! After hearing it too (like many others) was coming to an end I was disappointed. There are SO many shows airing that are pointless (honey boo boo for one) that don’t bring awareness or acceptance to those who are different (aspergers in this case, or hard or hearing in another great tv series, switched at birth) it is refreshing to see shows and known actors supporting and bringing awareness to such. These actors/actresses bring the characters alive and I can relate to them on may levels, making me feel for them and even crying, this is not… Read more »
I lovvvvveee this show! Don’t cancel!
I love the show Parenthood. There is nothing on T.V. that has so much
emotion, love, everyday life matters that everyone can relate too.
Plus it has a lot of good humor. I don’t understand that the good shows
get cancelled I think they could go on a lot longer.
I too agree with most of the other posts. I look forward to Parenthood every season. It deals with real life situations. I thoroughly agree with the post that states: ” …if it doesn’t have anything to do with blood & guts, reality shows (which are so far from being real!), or cop shows, they get canceled. Please NBC save PARENTHOOD!!!
I love this show & the whole cast!! Seems like one of the few shows still on TV that is family & value oriented. NBC has no idea what they are doing by canceling this show!!
WHY oh’ Why would you cancel Parenthood!? I would give up all other t.v. if I could continue to look forward to watching this show every week. I plan my time around this show so I will not be distracted, interrupted or any body else is around. I love every person in a different way & wish I was neighbors or grew up knowing any of the Bravermen’s. I cry a different cry (empathy, sad, hurt, joy) every episode. There is so much I can relate to on so many, levels at all different times of my life. This show… Read more »
AMEN
Totally agree!
