The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I loved Perception. I like the librarians also but perception was my favorite. It kept me on edge, wanting more. I actually had my calendar marked to look out for its return date. Shame, shame TNT
Why would tnt cancel such great shows like perception and franklin and bash when they could have advertised more.
I love this show–both the complex cases and the neuroscience. It’s one of the most intelligent shows on any network. I hope ABC or someone else picks it up! I would follow it anywhere. I think Eric McCormack is fabulous as Daniel Pierce. The world could use the information and understanding of mental health issues his character provides. Please bring Perception back!
Why do networks cancel amazing shows like Perception?!!! It’s an awesome show with great actors and story lines!!!! DON’T CANCEL IT PLEASE!!!!
To bad. This is an intelligent, entertaining and well acted program. TNT was on the right track with this show. We don’t need more edgy.
TNT is making a mistake for cutting the show Perception!
I love the TNT shows, especially Perception. Is there a possibility that the show can be saved? Its such an informative show. The cast is the best I have seen so far. Please keep it on the television line up,thanks.
Absolutely loved this quirky series. Why ever would you cancel this wonderful show? I would love to see it on another network. Please reconsider!!!!!!
I love the show move it I will follow
I loved this series and sadden to hear it been canelled. Dang it why TNT why did you cancel such a good show!!!!
I love Perception, and would watch it on any channel. What a shame to cancel such a great show that makes you think.
It’s not that surprising that TNT cancelled this program-the viewer actually had to have a bit of intelligence to follow the stories. I would have rather seen Rizzoli & Isles get the axe than Perception. It was pretty obvious during the last season it was going to have some problems as they kept adding the useless Donnie character to the storyline far more than necessary. If The Librarians & The Last Ship are indications of their desire for edgier programming, then I will be moving off of TNT in general. First they got rid of the fine Southland(which made absolutely… Read more »
All three of the cancelled shows mentioned in the article are some of my favorites on TV. Dallas, Franklin & Bash and now Perception. What is with TNT? I am officially not watching anything new anymore, all they do is cancel them. I think the various networks and cable channels better start realizing they are alienating more and more viewers with their constant axing of shows. There are just so many options the channels should be happy with the viewers they do get.
I’m disappointed that TNT cancelled such a good show. Not to mention other stations that are canceling good shows. I would really love to see Perception picked up by another station.
What type of madness is this! This was the best show on ion for me! And the excuse of canceling is because “Oh we need to go on the edgy side I think not. It all bowers like that I like mustery and drama wich this show has both how disappointing! I feel like Sheldon of big bang!
