The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
booo booo
the show was original.
LOVE THE SHOW!!! Can’t wait for 02/17/2015 to start watching again. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, do not cancel!
Love this show…it’d an intelligent show with excellent actors. Why cancel this and keep other terrible shows.Sounds about right for TNT.
We are so disappointed that you chose not to do a 4 th season. I disagree with your edgier programming . What would be refreshing is to keep the clever writing something that this program had going for it. We loved the characters, the intriguing story lines. Not to have the closer in the relationship and future of Dr. Pierce and Agent Kate Moretti is unfair. Invest in caring about the characters and good writing and it will hold up ,and loose the shock value it only works once.
Many followers are hoping Perception will NOT be canceled. We LOVE the show
Not again! I just get into a series and some decision maker without any grasp of what entertains pulls the trigger. Doh!
I vote for the show to continue. Please don’t cancel. If moves to another channel i will follow.
A shame to cancel this ingenious and entertaining serious. This concept allows the intro of so many quirky and interesting characters. Love this show. If it continues, they need Kelly Rowan back.
Love this show. Please don’t cancel.
Another tnt’ mistake !!
Please don’t cancel Perception, luv this show. The networks make such a huge mistake by focusing on the demographics between the ages of 18 and 49. What about making them into different groups, say 18 to 25, 26 to 49 and 50+, since usually your older viewers are the ones that are sitting home watching TV.
I love this show too, and so do my friends! It’s intelligent, interesting, has thoughtful writing, has a handsome guy in the lead and a pretty woman co-star. It’s so good! Please consider changing your mind, TNT. What if you try “edgier” and those programs flop, but it’s too late to bring back this show, which has a good following?! Not everything can or needs to be “edgy.” Interesting, non-pornographic, non-vulgar, and fun to watch is just as good, and you already have some edgy programs anyway.
Perception has been an entertaining and well acted series. With the lack of really good shows to watch on any tv channel it is very sad to see one as wonderful as this going away. Please rethink your strategy.
I concur with the other posts. Why do you networks always cancel the best shows. Why don’t you ask the viewers what they think, after all the show is called Perception why don’t you have any?
It seems intelligent programming is always the first to go. The story lines were all engaging, with likeable characters (even Donny). It was the only show I watched in TNT, so I guess I won’t be tuning to that channel any longer. Would love it if another cable channel picked it up and continued the story. If nothing else, I hope we get some closure by the end of the last Season 3 show.
I would watch it on any channel, awesome show!
