The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I will miss the series, mostly the cast and the chemistry between them. The story lines are interesting but the best part of the series is that the show protrays the idea that people can overcome issues and be productive members of society. People can carve out a life not just an existance even when battling an illness or disorder on a daily basis. The scripts are realistice in terms of the relationships and the actors always nail the characters. I feel as if these peoples actually exist when I am watching the show. I am sorry to see it end.
Looking forward to watching season 4. Hope it gets picked up by another network!
It seems that every time there is a series, that actually causes the viewer to think, it gets cancelled. I have found this to be one of the most entertaining series in a very long time. It also exposes the viewers to the fact that mental illness is not synonymous with inability to be a contributing member of society. It would seem to be time to reconsider canceling this truly good show.
I agree conpletely, besides that, he is so cute
Love this show. So disappointed to hear this. Please find a new home for this show
Why ???? I live for the night that perception us on, plus I record it. It’s informative., makes sense and one hell of a crew of actors. NO it cannot be cancelled. Period. Put it back !!!!!! Who idea to cancel it was ir ??? Big mistake
Enjoy watching the show. Hope it’s not cancelled.
Just discovered this show and I am binge watching ! I have a daughter who graduated Valedictorian from a prominent US university and she has “a beautiful mind” as depicted in this series . It is the first time I have ever seen a TV show that addresses this issue and the hurdles it imposes. She and I are encouraged by the light shone on the positive contributions to society when well managed and the ability to productively interact with society. Please reconsider or give us more shows that take this subject ” out of the closet”. Take caution that… Read more »
Very interesting series with great actors and story lines. Why cancel what’s good. Not every program on TV needs to be all violence and bad language. Perhaps a new spin on the characters or their lives.
I love this show!
This was one of the best shows on T.V. It made you think. It was entertaining and the cast was Fabulous. This was a serious miss. I hope another station picks it up.
This is one of the best shows and it should not be cancelled. There is so much awful TV and it is a shame that this will be gone. One of the reasons viewership is down is because most people don’t know about it.
Legends, which was also mentioned, is a great show, but at least 90% of my friends have never heard of it!!!
I love this show and was watching it and the characters evolve in a natural way. “Edgy?” Please. What the heck is edgy in your world? Mental illness and murder, are about as edgy as you can get. Plus, don’t we just want well written and interesting stories with well developed characters that are portrayed through good acting on tv?
I totally agree with Cathy – this is a great show and should remain on. So, what is wrong with the writers of the show, add something edgy. Of course that depends on what edgy is. Will we have to watch, zombies, vampires, witches, etc. I think a lot of people, unless your a teenager is sick of the above,”EDGY” Please, Please; bring it back with new writers that understand what clean edgy is.
Just found the show on DVD and love it. I can’t believe they cancelled this when it was truly great programming, and not just because it was set in Chicago.
What will it take for TNT to reverse this decision, or for ABC to move this to “free” programming?
I only have the first season, I can’t find the others except on line and I refuse to order on line as anyone who is cunning can get my card or checking account numbers and then I’m robbed again. It’s happened before twice.
Love the program, it brings the past and present together beautifully. Not the typical cookie cutter TV program! Was looking forward to a long run of programs. Hate when networks do not look to the long run of a series. Let’s see, they will probably replace it with another vampire program….or another reality program….or housewives of who know where!
Great show!! Haven’t missed one episode. Bummed.
