The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I watch a lot of shows on TNT but they seem to be canceling all of them. I loved watching Perception and Franklin & Bash. Looks like I will be looking for another channel to watch.
We are shocked and heartbroken! I think it’s a terrible mistake to cancel the show. It was different, interesting, thought provoking. My whole family sat down to watch it. We had many conversations about mental illness. Again, heartbroken!
love this show and can’t believe it’s been cancelled – at least there’s the 5 final episodes of the season to look forward to!
This is a fantastic show! I just finished season 3 and cannot believe how they left it hanging. Thank God they’re airing the remaining 5 episodes, but this is seriously a travesty. There are all kinds of crappy shows on nowadays that don’t get cancelled (even though they should). Very disappointed. I love Bones and this has the same kind of relationship examination without all the gore. Plus, who doesn’t love Eric McCormack?
Can’t believe Perception will be cancelled. The show was so different from any others. I really don’t what TNT is thinking. It was a great cop drama in a very different way. It was very well written. I sure hope another channel sees what a huge mistake TNT is making and picks it up.
This was an awesome show. One of my favorites. Can’t believe they are cancelling it. I hope someone else with some sense picks it up.
Very distressing…love the show “only the good die young”
One of the better shows on TNT definitely should not be cancelled big mistake
So let me get this straight, Falling Skies has less viewers than Perception, but IT gets renewed for another season, while Perception gets cancelled – WFT !!! Don’t get me wrong, I like Falling Skies, but I prefer Perception. I hope TNT will not make the same mistake when it comes to The Librarians, and will renew it.
We loved perception it puts a whole new light on mental illness and how it is perceives and taken care if in the US. We need more shows that realistically show the Paine as well as frustration the mentally ill deal with and with proper medicine can lead a fulfilling very productive life. The cast was super!! It will be greatly missed. I hope ABC finds another home!!
We loved it. Would watch it on any channel. Don’t need “edgier” from TNT; I like their shows.
I don’t think it should be cancelled. This is one of the best shows I have seen in years.
I watched this show from its inception, along with my husband. We loved it because it was so different from other shows on TV. It should be retained or picked up by another channel. I’m really disappointed in TNT. Murder in the First is another show that I never missed; I watched it years ago when it was on ABC and loved it. Major Crimes and its predecessor are also favorites because of the characters. All of these shows were well-written with interesting characters.
My husband and I always looked forward to watching Perception. We are very disappointed to find it is canceled and hope it will be picked up by another network. Good cast and plots. Good depiction of how some schizophrenia symptoms are experienced and are able to be dealt with by some. With all the inane shows on TV it is a real shame to lose Perception.
I hope it gets picked up again. It’s a great show, very different from the normal cop drama’s out there.
