The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
This is one of my favorite shows. If TNT isn’t going to carry it I hope another network will.
It sad that any time we get a show that isn’t bull **** reality show on any channel that after a few seasons it gets cancelled. I agree with Thomas and many of the other opinion posted on this site, perception has many avenues that could take it to top 10 ratings get the writers off there asses. But instead we as a society keep cheering on the crap reality shows they put on the air. Viewers stand together and get quality viewing back on tv who cares what going on in any of the over paid, over papered divas… Read more »
Don’t cancel the show! This show is literally amazing! Its unique. Please just don’t!
Please don’t cancel this show…it is one show I waited to see….its a great cast and as long as the writers don’t make the cast mean it’s a perfect show…please!!!!!
“Big”mistake taking PERCEPTION off the air. There is a wealth of undeveloped character story lines.
What a waste!
I really enjoyed watching Perception. One of the better shows on tv. I will miss watching it. I hope it does go to a different network.
RENEW! Come on its a great show. Already bought all three seasons. And was excited when they said it was going to be renewed, wait for months then being told its going to get cancelled??
Not enough shows like Perception
Plenty of TV networks WITHOUT TNT
Pity
Perception is a great show. I love the stories and all of the characters. It’s funny, but not in a silly way, and intelligent, and it’s a different concept. Yet I’ll bet that silly Rizzoli and Iles with those air heads and ridiculous story lines will stay on the air.
Love the show and would watch it on any channel. Please do not cancel!!
Truly enjoy Perception – Eric McCormack is great! No, I do not think it should have been cancelled, and YES, I would watch it on whatever smart channel picks it up!
P.S. Same is true about Franklin & Bash – great show with two really fun personalities.
I love Perception. I agree with others that it has an original concept not like some of the others. Please keep Perception on. They are missing the boat if they let this one go. I record it on my DVR because my schedule doesn’t permit me to see it live.
Really love this show—-please do not cancel it! Love the way it delves into how the brain works!
It’s a great show!! Please don’t cancel!!
Perception is a truly original concept for a show, intelligently written, and totally engrossing. My wife and I will sorely miss it. Axing Dallas and Franklin and Bash as well TNT is dead as a station to us.
