The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
Yes, I would continue watching Perception. Even if it took getting moved to another station
great show with great acting and well defined characters. I am disappointed about the cancelling of the show. would definitely watch it on another channel
I just read that Perception has not been renewed. Another very big disappointment from TNT. First they non renew Dallas with about 3 cliffhangers on the last show. Now Perception. This was truly one of my favorites, intelligently written with a great cast. Keep it up TNT!!!
I am very sad you are cancelling this show. It is very very different and so excellent.
The acting is superb – especially by McCormack — such a great show. Some of the shows that got cancelled shouldn’t have been cancelled (Mentalist) — crazy.
I love this show so sad that its being canceled 🙁
Perceptions is one of my favorite shows. I am truly sad and disappointed that it will not continue. Yes!! I will watch the show on another channel. My husband works 3rd shift so he gets the tv while he is awake and at home, but I have been following all of my shows on demand– if that counts.
This tv series is intelligent funny and they should let Eric sing more. I hope they do not cx the show I really really like it
Think this was a really good show – why do we have to get “edgy” which to me means more violence and bad language – this is a show that should be kept alive……
Perception is a great show…please don’t cancel it. It brings such an education to the public about someone who suffers from schizophrenia. It also is just a terrific show.
As someone who suffers from mental illness, Perception is one of my favorite shows and I am so disappointed to learn of its cancellation. Seeing a Eric McCormack’s character dealing with many issues I do and still finding the courage to overcome these fears to help out the FBI with cases is extremely inspiring. I feel that it does a great job of educating the audience about mental illness and helping to lift the terrible stigma that is still associated with it. This is now the third series with the main character dealing with and overcoming mental illness to be… Read more »
Terrible decision. I have two show that I watch and only two…Perception and The Mentalist. Both are ending and I have no idea what, if anything, I am going to watch now. Very disappointing.
I definitely think they need to renew the series – I’m up for another at least 40 episodes of Perception… Hope they find another home for it 🙂
Perception is always enjoyable and intelligent. So many other programs are inane and silly without being amusing. Give Perception another chance.
Perception is a rarity: it actually stimulates the little gray cells. So, given the “tastes” of most viewers, I’m surprised only that it’s lasted this long. Question: will TNT release the final two seasons onto DVD? So far only season one is available for sale.
Tomorrow night is the last night. I can’t believe we are being ignored, but apparently the big wigs are nervous of Paranoid Schizophrenia. Perhaps some of them suffer from it too and don’t want anyone to know.
It’s not an illness to be ashamed of. Some of the most brilliant people have it and have accomplished so much in spite of or because of it.
What a shame as it awakened many people to this affliction, and the stigma was loosening up on it.
Everybody’s loss.
Ughh please don’t cancel perception it’s to good to cancel! All the best shows get cancelled.
