The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I LOVE Eric McCormack and the premise of the series. I can’t believe how they just cancel a series these days without giving the audience a chance to respond. In addition, it is an extremely wholesome show; which is so sorely needed in the days of all these ridiculous reality series……….I hope TNT reconsiders, but if they don’t, I hope another station will have the common sense to pick it up.
Can’t believe this cancellation… It simply shows that all the TV companies want is to pander to the lowest common denominator . If you have less than a 6 grade education all the pap or violence is satisfying. Anything that requires you to engage your brain will be removed so that you will watch longer, numb what little mind you have and cause you to see more ads. I am so disappointed. …
I watched last night’s show and was again reminded how much I love this show. I’m extremely sorry that it has been cancelled. It was one of my favorites
At least Joann, it will be on again next week. Who knows it may go on for a few weeks. Let’s hope.
I think its really stupid that they are removing a really good show like Perception. Perception is one of the best series I’ve watched its soon educational and makes you useur mind. I personally think its stupid to cancel a really good show and keep shows that are uneducational and doesn’t help us in anything. Perception actually kinda gives advice.
Please don’t cancel Perception… awaiting 4th Season… I am sure there are more who will agree with all of us.
Don’t understand why TNT would cancel such a great show. ,,(perception). Why don’t they just put another mindless
realty show. So our brains get as uncreative as the executives.
we love perception. we would watch it for sure if it was picked up again. eric mccormack and the rest of the cast are outstanding. it is one of the smartest shows ever to run on tv or even at the movies. please save it.
I thoroughly enjoy Perception. I think it should be renewed.
Love this show! If TNT won’t keep it, then i hope, hope, hope another channel will pick it up.
More than half the shows on Network TV were worst than this show. Tv has become so boring that it’s hard to find anything interesting to watch anymore. This show dealing with a person’s mental health gave an interesting twist and I liked the cast. One more reason to quit paying to watch.
I’m so upset that Perception has been cancelled. Why does the station feel that the viewers it has are unimportant. Ledgens is nothing I’d ever watch and I’m sure others feel the same. Yes I would watch Perception on any station.
Yes!! This is a wonderful show with great acting. I cannot believe they would cancel this!
This is , in my opinion one of the most intelligent and compassionate shows onTV.
Ridiculous to cancel this quirky and entertaining show! Such a clever and instructive premise! I feel I learned a lot about mental illness from the characters.
Franklin & Bash was too sophomoric for my taste, but Perception will be on next week, which is good news. I do feel though they went in the wrong direction last night though. Let’s hope they don’t get too weird in it’s final season.
I love the .sorry to hear its going. If they weren’t up against justified and a few others it would do better
