The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
It’s a great show. How in the world do they keep Legends and drop Perception? I hope it gets picked up by some station that knows how to keep good shows on. It seems TNT doesn’t seem to find any (edgier ) shows like Legends. LOL so they cancel really good shows with almost 50% more viewers. Makes no sense to my and I. Please bring them back!!!!!!!
Speaking for myself and knowing the feelings of several other friends, I can say that losing this show will leave a hole in our lives. Not only is it well acted, it illuminates a misunderstood illness that is very under-represented and often ridiculed. It does so in a gentle and amusing way that can also make clear the pain and isolation involved. I am truly saddened for our loss.
Please renew. My family and I LOVE and lookk forward to this show.
No I do not think it should be canceled. It is a written and well casted show. I find it enthralling.
I LOVE this show. Eric McCormick is a phenomenal actor in this roll. The creativity and the whole story line is so interesting. I always say they cancel shows that are off season, I never know if it’s starting in the fall, spring or summer which confuses people and then they miss it. Luckily my DVR catches them and I’m able to watch them. This show should definitely continue.
Anything good and the show gets cancelled.
It sucks going to miss this show.
annoyed fan in the UK.
We loved this show. PLEASE re-consider.
Please renew!!!
Yes, I would watch it on ANY station!!!!
I really enjoy this show! Eric McCormack does an amazing job portraying Daniel Pierce! There isn’t another show like it and I am very sad to know it’s been cancelled. I would certainly love to see such a great cast and series picked up by another station!
I agree with what has already been said. There are so many undead shows and not enough good “living” ones like Perception. The cast has good chemistry and the stories are always interesting and entertaining. The beginning and the end of each show is informative and provides tidbits of knowledge. Most shows have lost their moral compass, lack substance, and can’t stand on the writing alone without sexual situations to support them. I really hope another station picks the series up ; I’d watch it!!
I love Perception. It’s smart. It doesn’t insult the viewer’s intelligence. It’s funny.
That’s probably why they’re canceling it. 🙁
I would LOVE to see it taken over by a different channel!
One of the best shows on tv. Mental disability dosnt mean you are incapable of a “normal life”
You are so correct Joanne, and Perception could be a big help to people who have Paranoid Schizophrenia. For too many years we have locked them up in asylums unfit for humans, or sent them to prison, and many of us, me included mocked right wingers as Paranoids or Schizos which is an insult to the mentally ill.
I love Perception and think it is one of the best, unique detective shows around. Plus it serves a great purpose of giving attention to mental illness.
Please, some other network, pick it up!!
AGREED- everyone I know watches it. Who cares what channel it on as long as its still on.
AGREED!!! CAN THE NEW NETWORK HEAD. – who cares what channel it’s on. As long as it is on. Two of these head actors only have been on TV series that out lasted and out ranked most others. That should tell you this is the wrong decision, obviously. It truely makes no sense that any of these TV series are being cancelled. DALLAS- seriously? A TV series with such a history that generations of people have talked about was cancelled by this network. That should tell you canceling that series is obviously the wrong decision. What happened to Blackbox? How… Read more »
Too many edgy and criminally intense shows on TV. Need more shows like Perception, Rissoli and Isles, Castle. Shows that provide thinking as well as some comedy.
Exactly.
You picked the good ones Bill. Recently I finally got ABC on Dish and now I can finally see the new Castle and not have to wait a year for it to be seen on TNT or buy the DVD also after a year.
I agree with you. It’s not to violent and interesting storylines.
Yes!! I would watch it on any channel- great storyline, great acting ensemble, and finally a show sensitive to those who are struggling with mental illness!
I had posted my thoughts plus this website on the ABC portion of Twitter. Some of our other posts may also be seen if ABC and others open the link I posted from above.
There are too many vampire shows out there. Why? Perception is fun to watch and offers lessons to learn.
