The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
Hopefully a network smarter than TNT will continue this show. It’s one of my favorite shows. This show is edgy in its own way, intelligent and nicely acted. Come on, ABC Studios. Don’t let this one bite the dust.
the series finale was horrible my opinion. it was way too short and even thugh Daniel admitted to Donny that he loved kate he never told her that. it was a total gyp.
Nope, like so many other great shows cancelled by tnt… it will not be picked up by another station. The new prez of tnt said that shows like perception is not in line with it;s new dramas…. Like librarians. … While I do like the comedy dramas… this is nothing like or as original or as good as perception. TNT has a very good record of dropping really good series to put on crappy shows. Result… cancel good shows where they might have to pay actors, or put on reality shows where they pay a pittance to non actors. Screw… Read more »

I am furious! Bring Back Perception. One of the only shows that does not insult your intelligence.

Well the final episode just finished. This is my fourth post on the subject. Now I am convinced someone dropped the ball on Perception being cancelled. that last episode really set up an exceptional setup for future episodes.
What!? NO!! Perception is a great show and it should have been renewed!!!!! It is informative and interesting and unique compared to the other “cop/detective shows”. There should be a season 4!
Keep Perception, it’s excellent!
Come on! This is one of the good ones. We’ll watch it anywhere!!!
Rethink this one! Don’t cancel it. My husband and I looked forward to seeing this series each week.
I am sorry but the show tonight didn’t offer any closure, the French guy said he would be sticking around to see how this all plays out with the four of them now covering for each other, good going TNT, way to leave your fans of the show. This was one of my favorites to watch, I hope another network picks it up.
