The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
Put this show back on its much better than these stupid reality shows.
Please extend ‘Perception’. It is so interesting and informative.
We need more of this type of show even if the majority of people watch crap.
All shows do not have to be violent, discusting, gory and obscene Not ‘everyone’ wants that kind of show.
Please. Give it some more time. Please!!!
I hope somebody important ‘with the ability to change things’ is reading ALL of the above.
cant believe they canceled perception. one of the few shows I looked forward to watching.
I was always telling people about it because a lot of people don’t watch that network.
How do we go about getting it back. I loved how I was always guessing who was real or not..
don’t need more zombies or comedies about a bunch of 20 year olds. how do we get them to bring it back??.
I would love to see this show return even if it is on another channel. There are a lot of people that were watching this program. HOPEFULLY ANOTHER NETWORK WILL PICK IT UP!
Love Perception – sorry to hear it’s cancelled – big mistake – huge. I’d absolutely watch it on another channel. It seemed to have a very respectful number of followers – odd that they would cancel it????? I guess the bottom line wasn’t meeting “their” expectations. It’s too bad that the consumers likes and dislikes are overlooked so often. I guess “Edgy” is the “new kid on the block”. Too bad we can’t get a nice mix of both.
I LOVE Perception! 🙂 I have just now fallen for the series (I live in Denmark), and I am sad to learn that the show will not be returning. I actually learned a lot from this show and it was refreshingly different. I hope they find a new host for the show, so it can continue 🙂
I thought perception was a very good show. Please someone pick it up and give it another chance
I appreciate a TV series giving a compassionate face to a condition that affects so many people. Understanding is becoming more prevalent, however it is certainly not mainstream and having a mental health condition is no cake walk. The more the general populace comprehends what this is like, the more people will have support to live productive lives. Dr Oliver Saks has explained ” just because someone is not ‘normal’ does not mean that they cannot lead a productive life’. Intertwining this message amidst a crime drama reaches more people & increases the possibility for more of us to understand.… Read more »
I loved Perception, as did my family & many friends. We are all very disappointed it is not returning. It had an interesting & unusual storyline with excellent acting, particularly Eric McCormack. Please reconsider. Thank you
I LOVE Perception!!! Please don’t cancel this series!!!
I’m sure its too late but I never missed an episode of Perception. I love crime shows and this was refreshingly different from all the rest incorporating the struggle with mental illness into crime solving. The show was intelligently written and was well cast.
I sure hope another network picks it up.
Saw that the one show I started watching prior to realizing Perception was cancelled – PROOF — currently isn’t doing well in the ratings and you might cancel it after only one season — which would truly be ashame since there is no other premise like it on television. Ever think the reason some of your shows aren’t doing well is because people are afraid to start watching something new on your channel and become invested in your programming because they don’t stay around past one or two seasons? Just food for thought TNT…
And… very importantly… unlike other shows that get promoted and start at regular times… we never really knew when it was on…..
Mike Musso’s comment below should have also included the following as part of TNT’s criteria to keep programs on their station: Must also have A lot of foul language, a “For Mature Audiences” rating, a lot of gore, blood and sex …. and then the public wonders where young people committing mass killings are getting their ideas from! I think broadcasters should have an ethical & legal responsibility for what they put on TV…maybe if they got taken to court and held accountable, they’d think twice before removing a program like Perception that always had a moralistic ending… ******* “Here’s… Read more »
Totally agree… The more violence we have the
More violence we put into our films, TV shows and the cycle continues and gets worse… They say that audio visual is the
Most effective for teaching people how … So what are we teaching?

Such a shame that this series was cancelled was promisising and had potential… Is this a venting site or is there some hope? Uhg so frustrating
