The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
Well at this rate i am Not seeing much point in keeping many channels. Many of my friends and family watched Perception, Franklin & Bash. It seems nobody cares.
Although, Perception, has gone the way of the Edsel, it’s still interesting to view comments from other fans. At least my other favorite show that was cancelled, Longmire, is available on Netflix. To a large extent, the viewing public is forced to endure the mostly vast wasteland of idiot TV pomelgated on us by double lobotomy patients otherwise known as network executives.
Oh, Michael i was going to mention Longmire too. Then I thought I was the only one who misses Longmire. Good to read that others liked it too.
It’s a big mistake to cancel Perception. It was an enjoyable show which questions a lot of how we think, our believes, etc. I am hoping someone has the courage and determination to give the audience/viewers what we all want, a challenging and entertaining show
I would watch this show if it was on another channel. It’s a good show. It makes people think. Does TNT not want it’s viewers to think for themselves? How silly.
Please pick up this very unique series. It is fascinating in showing the challenges of one with schizophrenia and the ability to use one’s unique abilities in the world. It teaches us to be tolerate of those who are not considered “normal” compared to much of society. It helps one become more aware of the fact that everyone has their strengths and weaknesses and yet, we can all find a place in the world. This show was unique in showing deep friendships all around the main character and with the main character helping him and encouraging him to succeed. The… Read more »
I enjoyed Perception and looked forward to the next season, great series without all the added side stories . It stuck to a plot each week. I would definitely watch it on another channel.
My favorite show. Please bring it back. I love Dr.Pierce
I’m 50 and loved to watch the show along with my teenage daughter (who also loved it). So that should say something about demographic appeal! It was always fun to join Daniel in trying to guess whether what he was seeing was an hallucination or real. We had it set up on DVR to automatically record whenever it aired – haven’t watched tv live in years! It’s always the smart, non-violent shows that don’t last: networks too often go for the easy lowest common denominator – stupid, bloody, and far too many “reality” shows
I am so disappointed!! I loved watching this show & would record it on DVR so I could watch it late at night so I could watch it in complete silence, without any interruptions. I am 24 years old & I have a lot of favorite programs so I think the minimum age demographic is correct but maybe they should extend it a few years Lucille. I honestly don’t understand why they would have canceled this show. Not every show your air will be a #1 show but as long as you have a substantial amount of viewers, isn’t that… Read more »
I loved the show! I’d watch it wherever it was aired.
My husband and I looked forward to this show every week. Its about time that TNT an other stations realize that its the over 45 age group that watch TV and enjoy it. The younger people do not stay home to do this. All the stations are dropping favorite programs without a thought to their viewers like we don’t count. Its time we should send the message back to them.
No I don’t think it should have been cancelled. I LOVED it!! I would so definitely watch it on another channel. Another poor choice TNT……
I, too, am so disappointed that perception has been cancelled. It was quirky, edgy and extremely entertaining!! I waited through the summer for new episodes just to learn it has been cancelled. Shame on you for taking off one of the most enjoyable programs on TV. I hope there is a chance you will reconsider your decision.
It’s very obvious by now that TNT has turned a deft ear to the numerous negative comments , by fans, over the cancellation of Perception. So here’s my final assessment of that networks decision makers. Just as this great nation of ours was founded by geniuses, and now run by idiots; so is this network.
I loved this dhow and sooooo disappointed that they have cancelled it. Please somebody pick it up! !!
