Last season, Person of Interest moved to Tuesday nights and lost Taraji P. Henson. The show also lost a lot in the ratings. Will the numbers continue to fall or will they rise with a new lead-in? Is it essentially guaranteed to be renewed for a fifth season by CBS (because of syndication) or, could it be cancelled? Stay tuned.
On Person of Interest, a presumed dead former-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a mysterious billionaire (Michael Emerson) work together to prevent violent crimes in New York City. The rest of the cast includes Kevin Chapman, Sarah Shahi, and Amy Acker.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/11 update: Person of Interest has been renewed for a fifth season on CBS. Will it be the end?
Final season averages: 1.53 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.42 million total viewers.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a few weeks later.
For comparisons: The third season of Person of Interest averaged a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 11.83 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Person of Interest TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a fifth season?
It’ll be interesting to see what CBS does with this show since they’ve already announced some renewals.
so if the show is all about root/shaw now with a little machine v.machine thrown in and the “number” now seemingly being irrelevant each week is the show really Person of Interest any more?
Harold said”the gov’t considers these people irrelevant, I don’t.” Well sorry Harold, they are now when it comes to the story line. It’s all Shaw/root, god mode, machine v.machine. sounds like they could write out the Person of Interest (i,e. the number) completely and not skip a beat as far as the current story line is going.
In the previews for the next episode, it showed one of the team saying they were going back for Shaw. I would much rather Root be gone than Shaw. Shaw adds a lot to the show. Maybe she’ll return after the birth of her twins.
I can’t believe there’s still Trolls on here going on about Carter been killed it’s been a year get over it are NCIS fans still sulking about Kate been killed off in season 2? The Walking Dead would be beyond you people the way they kill people off! Now there’s people trying to create a rivalry between this and Empire just cause Henson’s on that get a life she’s an actress that’s her job to appear on different shows! POI doesn’t stand still churning out the safe and same story’s every week were into season 4 at the minute and… Read more »
Shane & Derek. You gentlemen are 100% correct. Well said!
yeah, cause the shaw/root girl on girl action is a so much better storyline
You guys are all stoned. This show is still great, the last episode was epic, and this season has been off the charts. Great season so far. I am a fan of Taraji and was sad that she was killed last season, but oh well, it happens in TV. As for her new show, lol, if you think this Empire is better than POI, you are high as hell. Terrence Howard has no range as an actor and the musical aspect is a huge turn off for me. Anyway, you guys can keep hating the show, but it’s still critically… Read more »
“but it’s still critically acclaimed” …and you said other people were stoned. Which critical acclaim do you think is more important? Some writer of an article, or the shows viewership that has power over its ratings? Being “critically acclaimed” when the show is flip-flopping (badly) all over the place means nothing. As far as Empire is concerned, I didn’t watch it. But I would be hardly “laughing out loud” when POI is getting 1.3-1.8, and Empire opened with a 3.8. Which show is better is a personal opinion. I like POI until recently, and will give Empire a chance as… Read more »
POI critically acclaimed??? Hahaha, where did you read this??? In a Tim Surette review or over there on SpoilerTV where the admins delete every negative comment????? There is no talk/buzz about POI these days. Even the “Shaw is killed or whatever that was…” people talked about for a day and that was it. People still talk about Joss Carter by the way….so i guess i must be a troll like Shane wrote 😉 While i thought “Empire” was pretty flat except for TPH i can see why this show is so popular (at least right now). P.S. Everyone that i… Read more »
Did I read correctly that in the last episode Shaw was killed?
if so, they killed Carter to make room for Shaw, suffer two years of horrible ratings as a result only to kill off the Shaw character? wow, that was some dumb story development on the part of the show runners.
I wonder how CBS feels about this (especially Tassler who went along with the decisions)? They seem to be getting some serious karma back. Watching the behind the scenes video yesterday of Sarah/Shaw’s exit , everyone spoke about her character but Caviezel. They shoe-horned in a short clip of him talking about the weather in California vs.filming in New York. It had nothing to do with Sarah. Maybe that was just the one I saw (it was on CBS) but I thought that was odd. Looking at that video, I was taken back to Taraji’s behind the scenes video. The… Read more »
Sarah Shahi, the actress who plays Shaw, left the show because she is pregnant with twins. So I thought the show did a great job dealing with the story line for a character who needed to leave/quit suddenly. They did not plan to kill the character but necessity demanded it.
so does that mean they have to stop the shaw/root girl on girl action?
After seeing EMPIRE last night, there is absolutely no reason for me to ever think about Person of Interest again.
Joss Carter (Taraji P. Henson) died, but she has definitely gone to a better place.
looks like she got a first class ticket OFF the Titanic
No, that would be Jonah Nolan — he’s off producing “Westworld” for HBO.
Actually Jonathan Nolan is still heavily involved in POI, and working on Westworld. I think a lot of you guys are crazy to think that that this show has lost quality. If anything, the show is better than ever. A ton of complaints say they want the show back to where it was in the first season, which was very procedural. To me the added serialization is what has made each season better than the last. Season 3 was incredible, from the 3 story Carter death arch to the Samaritan follow up episodes through to the end of the season.… Read more »
I tape Person of Interest and look forward to seeing. This show addressed government surveillance which is a hot topic and on our minds. However, the writers seem to be confused for quite some time.. It appears that all the characters are going to be killed except for Howard. All of the cast (past and present) have given stellar performances and are not worthy of this easy dismissal. Going back to the beginning of the series, my interest was high. However, for some time the writers are reaching and seem to have a mental block. I think it is over.… Read more »
“Killing off all the characters” is a sign the show is ending.
This show is in a lot of peoples rear view mirrors now. I wish it could have been more successful because I really did like it. I never hear anything anymore from Jim Caviezel (especially) or Micheal Emerson (rarely) concerning their characters or answering questions of any kind. I remember they didn’t look too happy with some of the decisions being made last year.
one of the main show runners has left to produce something for HBO I believe. POI has its own number and its getting smaller.
They are taking it too far out. Need to get the story line back to something half way believable. The flirty nonsense from Root to Shau is stupid. The kiss at the end of the show last night (01/06/15) was ridiculous. I used to love the show, and I’ll still keep watching for a while with hopes it will return to what it was a year or so ago.
Agree completely.
I agree. They need more thought into the depth of the show and not waste time on things like the kiss at the end of the show last night (01/06/15).
I agree the “parting kiss” was not a plus, however
did you see it coming? I would guess not, and that is still
what keeps me watching. To me it shows glimpses into how
for better and worse our world is changing, and I can’t really
anticipate what, other than the violence, what will happen next.
Agree completely.
When Shaw kissed Groves it took me back to when Reese kissed Carter and then Carter ended up getting killed. The Shaw/Groves kiss makes me believe that Shaw is the next to be eliminated. I don’t know why the show has taken the turn it has taken. The girl/girl kiss, Samaritan, and all these rival operatives are making Person of Interest lose my interest. I wish the show would get back to its roots and produce episodes like the first couple years when, in my opinion, were what made POI a great show. If POI’s number has come up, at… Read more »
The reaction to the loss of the Shaw character is markedly disparate when compared to the outcry after the murder of Joss Carter.
Sometimes different is not better, and Person of Interest should understand this now.
Restating the obvious can be……….soothing.
Cancel it. With last nights episode, and leanings recently, they have joined the Hollywood parade to push same sex relationships in the viewers faces. We don’t want it, and now there is one more show that offends me. T yanked dish out for canceling fox, and now use air antenna. I liked POI until they went down this road of perversion. I now have no interest in POI.
Agree.
Person of Interest will now have the distinction of being remembered for firing the lead actress of the hit show, EMPIRE. Taraji P. Henson was not “good enough” for Nolan and Plageman, but she is a glamourous treasure to Lee Daniels and Fox TV.
Good Luck Taraji ! May EMPIRE find ratings gold!
Person of Interest mistreated you and did not deserve you, and they know it and so does the world.
I agree with this. I don’t think they appreciated or respected her at all.
They didn’t fire Taraji, she left the show because she wanted to venture out into more movies. Not even a year later and she finds the grass isn’t greener on the other side and has to return to tv. Get your facts straight. Same with Sarah Shahi, she’s leaving because she’s pregnant. Difference is she wants to come back, and the writers have said that they’re writing her “death” in a way that would allow for her to return once she’s able to.
There is so much misinformation in this post that I don’t know where to start. Google is your friend. I mean, seriously. Are there people who really still believe Taraji “left” POI? Seriously? She didn’t “come back” to TV because she never left. Went from this show to Empire (tie for the biggest new show premiere this season) with a few movies in between. Taraji is doing all right. Can’t say the same about POI…
sorry bob, but you are wrong. she was written off.
She didn’t jump. She was pushed. To make room for Nolan’s “Catwoman”. Who is now leaving the show because she got pregnant. Accidentally, apparently. It’s funny — Shahi mentioned in a radio interview that when she told her family she was joining the show, her aunt, who was a rabid POI fan, said that she shouldn’t because she would ruin the show. Now she’s leaving before it sinks for good. Probably a good career move, IMHO. And nice that her character could exit the night before people start saying, “Why the hell did POI ever let Taraji go? She’s a… Read more »
I’m much older than the average commenter on this forum. I’ve been bewildered about the decline in this country but, reading the hate spewed forth by some…about how their lives have been horrifically altered…by the death of a fictional character on a fictional show…is both breathtaking and revealing about the mindset of America in 2015. Instead of outrage at our government spying on it’s citizens…the real life Samaritan…they root for the death of yet more fictional characters. Little wonder we are 18+ trillion dollars in debt…with over 100 trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities. Our country has spent itself into oblivion… Read more »
Sure there are more important things to talk about. But you could be on an entirely different site yourself talking about those things instead of getting overly emotional about differing opinions. It’s called escape from realism. Assign anything more to it, and you become the very thing you are here espousing.
Escape from realism? Seriously? I watch shows I enjoy for escape. Why would anyone follow a show they obviously hate?
Why are you assigning dramatic perceptions onto other peoples comments? No ones lives have been horrifically altered by the death of a fictional character on a fictional show. The is an entertainment board that gives us all the opportunity to voice our opinion whether for or against what the show has to offer. Sorry you don’t like some of the comments; but using the old there’s more important things in the world to talk about card will not silence anyone. You are here too (the irony) and when we want to talk about real world events; we will seek the… Read more »
It’s not a question of liking or disliking comments. I’m just having trouble understanding the never ending angst of the death of a character on a TV show. The character has been gone for over a year. There are a lot of people who have expressed their opinion that the death of Henson’s character ruined the show. I completely understand those who felt that way. What puzzles me is why those who still feel that way…and quite obviously don’t like the characters, the plot line and most certainly the writers …continue to watch the show. To quote the Robinson’s robot… Read more »
Did Shaw actually bite it? Man, I hope so. Please let Root be next! Seriously, I’m willing to bet that Carter will be the only main character killed for that “realism” thing they were talking about (like the show is so real with all the over-the-top gunfights & comic book crap). Realism, non-promotion, marginalization, and definitive death is only reserved for certain characters apparently. Also, I remember watching a comic con video where Caviezel is talking about his characters attraction to Taraji. Anyone else see that? Didn’t Nolan put his head down and direct Jim to move on? At the… Read more »
Nolan & Plageman answer as if they left her supposed death open for a possible return. Plageman: “We were incredibly bummed out to realize that however long we would be losing Sarah for, she’d become such an integral part of the show.” Also, Nolan on the Root and Shaw relationship: “We’ve been invested in that relationship from the beginning. I remember the first episode that had a scene between Sarah and Amy and there was an electricity between the two characters. We were standing on set watching the two of them act together and we thought, this is a great… Read more »
So I was right then. Figures. Not surprising at all.
