TV show description:
This supernatural, twisted and darkly comedic drama is based on a comic book series published by DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint.
A former criminal, Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) is trying to fulfill a promise to his dead father. He’s returned to his hometown of Annville, Texas, to lead his father’s church as the town preacher. But when he’s inhabited by a mysterious entity, he develops a highly unusual power and is forced to wrestle with a new kind of mission.
A volatile, hell-raising force of nature, Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga) is Jesse’s gun-toting ex-girlfriend — and his one true love. She’s also a gifted criminal who’s not afraid to steal, cheat, and kill to get what she wants.
Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) is an Irish vagabond and a vampire. A glutton for every possible vice, he stumbles across the weird town of Annville and quickly becomes Jesse’s wild-ass best friend. Up for any kind of adventure, his hedonistic lifestyle and humanist views are constantly at odds with Jesse’s faith.
A young widow and single mother of three, Emily Woodrow (Lucy Griffiths) excels in the practicalities of life. She juggles several jobs while also upholding her church duties for Preacher Custer. However, simmering beneath the surface, there’s a whole lot of dark and debased desires.
Odin Quinncannon (Jackie Earle Haley) is the most powerful man in town and the chief employer. He owns a 125-year-old family-run cattle slaughterhouse business.
Quincannon’s brawny right-hand man is Donnie Schenck (Derek Wilson). When Jesse resurfaces and publicly undermines Donnie’s role as the town bully, Donnie becomes hell-bent on evening the score.
Nicknamed “Arseface”, teenager Eugene Root (Ian Colletti) has the heart of a saint and the face of a monster. Despised by most, he finds solace in Jesse’s sermons and is the new preacher’s biggest fan.
Eugene’s father is Sheriff Hugo Root (W. Earl Brown), Annville’s local lawman. A tough, conservative redneck who loves his deformed son, he is dubious of Eugene’s faith in Preacher Custer.
Meanwhile, mysterious government agents Deblanc (Anatol Yusef) and Fiore (Tom Brooke) are heading up a top-secret investigation that has led them right to the doorstep of Jesse Custer.
