A couple of years ago, Edward Burns appeared in a TNT limited series called Mob City. It didn’t perform very well in the ratings. Now, he’s back on the network in a much bigger role — as an actor, director, and writer. Will Public Morals be a success for Burns and the cable channel? Cancelled or renewed for a second season? Stay tuned.
Set in early 1960s New York City, Public Morals revolves around the professional and personal lives of the members of the NYPD’s Public Morals Division. They enforce the vice laws that are still on the books but that no one wants to enforce — prohibiting crimes like gambling and prostitution. The large cast includes Edward Burns, Michael Rapaport, Elizabeth Masucci, Katrina Bowden, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Wass Stevens, Keith Nobbs, Austin Stowell, Patrick Murney, Lyndon Smith, Brian Wiles, and Cormac Cullinane.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
Final season averages: 0.15 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 880,000 total viewers.

What do you think? Do you like watching the Public Morals TV series on TNT? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
the show has become strangely addictive in a very good way I am looking forward to the season finale and a hopeful renewal next season
I Love This Show.. It’s different compared to all the other shows.. It has a great story line to it and great actors in it as well.. Please Renew!!
Please RENEW!
Love this show, please renew!
The show is extremely good. I love the the acting, the writing, it is fantastic! You can see that everyone on this production is doing their best work. No one is phoning it in. This is a period piece that I truly enjoy.
RENEW this show. It will catch on!
Love it!!! Please renew.
“Sopranos”
DEFINITELY RENEW! I believe these ratings should not be used and are seriously outdated. With DVRs in so many homes it is very hard for people to watch tv shows live anymore. Knowing that it is being recorded and we can watch it at our convenience we dont get the same feeling of having to be in front of a tv at a certain time, like we do with football for example. It would be a serious shame and loss to have this show canceled. I have not been this amazed by a tv series since the sapranos first aired.… Read more »
DEFINITELY RENEW
Right on Karen!
I absolutely love this show!! It is different from some of the other “high tech” cop/detective shows on now, as it takes place in the good old 60’s. It’s too bad that the ratings are not very high and that viewers don’t appreciate it much. The viewing public has been brainwashed by so much reality T.V., talent type competition shows, sci-fi shows that are crap compared to older sci-fi shows, or silly sitcoms that when a show like this comes along, which is really great, it bombs because nobody wants to give it a chance because it’s “old school” and… Read more »
Seems period show like this just don’t get the ratings. Those over 50 (not counted!!) like these kind of show.
Well the numbers certainly don’t look good and that’s too bad, this is a good show, an opinion NOT shared by everyone. Unless there’s a big upsurge in viewership, and that seems unlikely, we will be saying farewell to “Public Morals” …my opinion, thanks …
Dear Kamramna: I really do enjoy the show, but do agree with you. Public Morals does not have the pizzazz that a lot of new shows have and probably will not be renewed. We can only hope that it will. Ed Burns and his actors are a delight to watch. Maybe he needs to get involved in a TV project that he is not creatively involved in so we can see him more often. Oh well.
Great show!!!! Please renew it!
Love this show. Biggest surprise and delight is seeing Brian Dennehy protray a flawed (understatement) character with so much evil zest and bite that has been absent from his acting choices for a few years. Please renew this show and let’s Ed Burns get some recognition for what he’s accomplishing here.
Expressed well and totally agree!
