This may be the one problem that Ray Donovan can’t fix. Showtime has decided to cancel the Ray Donovan TV show, opting not to renew it for an eighth and final season.
Ray Donovan stars Liev Schreiber, Alan Alda, Zach Grenier, Jon Voight, Dash Mihok, Eddie Marsan, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey, and Graham Rogers. The series centers on professional fixer Ray Donovan (Schreiber), who’s working to be the man his family needs him to be. While he makes progress with Dr. Amiot (Alda), there are dangers from the past that require the Ray Donovan of old. Between NYC mayor Ed Feratti (Grenier), an unrelenting NYPD officer hunting for the truth and clients old and new, Ray struggles to find the balance between fixing for clients and fixing himself. And when Feratti’s corruption brings a piece of Mickey’s past (Voight) back to New York, Ray is forced to seek answers to long-buried questions.
The seventh season of Ray Donovan averaged a 0.13 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 932,000 viewers. Compared to season six, that’s down by 21% in the demo and down by 3% in viewership.
During this year’s winter TCA press conference, Showtime boss Gary Levine suggested Ray Donovan could be coming to an end. He said, “I think Ray Donovan is nearing the end of its run. We always talked about seven or eight seasons. Nothing has been decided yet but it’s fair to say it is nearing the end.” Schreiber suggested that fans of Ray Donovan urge Showtime to renew the show for season eight.
“After seven incredible seasons, Ray Donovan has concluded its run on Showtime,” the cable channel said in a statement. “We are proud that the series ended amid such strong viewership and on such a powerful note. Our deepest thanks go to Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight, showrunner David Hollander and the entire cast and crew, past and present, for their dedicated work.”
The seventh season finale, which aired on January 19th, left viewers with a cliffhanger for a series finale.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the Ray Donovan TV show? Do you think that Showtime should have ordered an eighth season or, at least some sort of wrap up for the series?
Great run
Well I guess I’ll have an extra fifteen bucks a month in my pocket from now on.
Where can I post so someone else picks up this show to renew it? Good God this was the best show since The Sopranos!
We love the show, the Black humor and the entire cast in Denmark – please reconsider and let time tell you, that it would make very good sence to produce season 8. Ray Donovan is getting a cult object, at least in our part of the country.
Loved it will miss the entire cast!
Very disappointed that showtime have decided to cancel season eight of Ray Donovan,my husband and I are big fans of the show and can’t believe that it has ended in such an unfinished way ,please give us closure with another season!!
The story should absolutely be finished. We love Ray around here. We missed the expected ending with all the family together, and now are crushed to hear that the story ends in limbo!
So sad I wanted to see ray complete his journey
So completely disappointed, no more Ray Donovan! Absolutely the best show. 🙁
What’s wrong with the decision makers? It’s one of the best shows on Showtime. Jon is sooo good it is easy to hate him.
Cannot believe this long running program has been cancelled without a PROPER ENDING! At least give us an ending after 7 long years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Should have renewed it as there was a lot to finish up on.Definitely would have liked Ray to end up happy and at peace after all he had been through!!! Let him fall in love again and bring the family together.
Perhaps a few episodes or a feature film length episode could be made to put the dot(s) on the i and finish up ‘Ray Donovan’. Good stories need proper closure, the end of season 7 wasn’t.
By ending ‘Ray Donovan’ now, Starz is practically pulling a ‘Game of Thrones season 8’ by calling it quits. I would have guessed that they have the chops to show the show-runners of GoT how to do a proper season 8 ending…
There is no reason for me to keep subscribing to Showtime if Ray Donovan has been cancelled. I am very disappointed.
idiot s best show on tv
