Late in the 2013-14 season, NBC and ABC launched three new Sunday night dramas — all with single word titles. NBC cancelled Crisis and Believe while ABC renewed Resurrection for a second season. In retrospect, was that a good decision for the alphabet network? Should Resurrection have been cancelled as well?
On Resurrection, a small town in Missouri is turned upside down when long-dead loved ones return after 30 years. The cast includes Omar Epps, Frances Fisher, Matt Craven, Devin Kelley, Mark Hildreth, Samaire Armstrong, Sam Hazeldine, Landon Gimenez, and Kurtwood Smith.
Debuting on March 9th, Resurrection had a great launch with a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 13.9 million total viewers. (Those numbers are about the same as this season’s How to Get Away with Murder’s debut.)
Unfortunately, Resurrection’s ratings dropped about 19% in week two and they kept falling nearly every week of the eight episode season. The seventh installment hit a low of a 1.9 rating with 7.85 million — half of the premiere’s demo rating.

Considering the poor luck that the alphabet network had last year launching new dramas, it wasn’t much of a surprise that ABC renewed Resurrection. They didn’t have much choice. However, the ratings slide was a terrible sign for the future.
Now, the show has been really struggling in season two. After a positive second season debut, the ratings quickly dropped, falling to new series lows week after week. The October 26th installment registered a mere 1.2 rating with 4.36 million.
ABC recently ordered full seasons and additional episodes of many of their new and older shows. It was a telling sign that the network is only producing 14 episodes of Resurrection this season.
Unless the ratings improve, it looks very likely that Resurrection will be cancelled by May. Hopefully, the writers will give viewers some degree of closure before the end.
What do you think? Did you stop watching Resurrection? Should it have been a mini-series? Is competition from The Walking Dead and football the cause of the low ratings? Do you think Resurrection should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
I love this show so much! ABC better not cancel it because the only other show of theirs that I like is HTGAWM. This show keeps the suspense going and you never know what could happen. Last eepisode was the only one out of the entire series that I didn’t love and that was only because it was all Langston. I really wanted to go back to Janine/Rachel/Tom but they’ll probably have that next. DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW ABC!!!!
i love this show too, ok its had its “filler” episodes where the writing has been lazy but ive seen marked improvements and i look forward to it. God its so much better than most of the drivel on TV.
I love this show, I always can’t wait for the next episode. Keep it going please!
Great show. Some character development issues, but c’mon, people gave Lost free passes. Long after the writers were out jumping sharks in motorcycle boots. It’s a fantastically dark and weird AND UNEXPLAINED show. And it’s on Sunday night! Just before another work week begins. Get on board or lose this show. Regret sucks. Watch it next week!
This is a wonderful show, and it will be a travesty if this show is not renewed.
This is a wonderful show with a great cast. If this show is cancelled it would be a travesty.
Keep the show going viewers will come back! It’s amazing the cast and show is phenomenal
This show is horrible. It’s painfully slow, the characters are two dimensional and shallow and the show runners are pushing way too many sub-plots simultaneously. It was good for maybe five episodes, then it just morphed into a zombie-themed soap opera where anything can happen because there are no rules. Want somebody gone, just convince them they aren’t wanted. Want to use a human for target practice, go ahead because they come back and you can do it all over again. Want to cure somebody, just give them some of the unlimited limited supply vaccine. It just goes on and… Read more »
I love the show! Don’t cancel it! The networks nowadays never give shows a chance to develop… constantly leaving viewers disappointed. Leave it alone and let it stay, do not cancel it!!!
Love this show and characters!! So amazingly different. Hate it’s been off air for Holidays… so glad it’s back on tomorrow!!! Keep shows coming!!
I love Resurrection. It would be a bad move for ABC to cancel this. I’m still reeling over the cancellation of GCB. Don’t continue to disappoint your viewers, ABC.
Love the show. Iconsider it a great sci-fi drama and I sure hope they do not cancel it.
Resurrection is the best series I’ve seen in a long time. I’m more attached to this than Lost. I’ve DVRd all episodes and have rewatched each episode, at least twice, finding clues and details I missed the first time. I love now the sub-plots and foreshadowing all connect. Phenomenal cast, excellent writing. Perhaps Sunday night offers too much competition for viewers. But the commentary posted on social media shows it has many loyal fans. Please continue this series. But if it isnt renewed, please give it a proper resolution and graceful ending. This show’s fans and its cast deserve that.
I love this show and watch or record it every week. Do not cancel it please.
I loved this show but it’s becomming more of a conspiracy involving the government, no real answers it becomes more and more tangled with out a hint of what caused it, too much happening at one time with no resolutions we gotta have a little bit of why, nott more and more complications with out answers, it starts to get boring with no closures or answers to some of what’s going just more and more complications very frustrating makes me not want to watch it. And why isn’t on right now. Is it canceled? This could have been a great… Read more »
I look forward to this show every week, but it seems like it is always pushed aside for other shows, like, why is there 3 shows of revenge tonight? Why is it that resurrection is not on? Please do not cancel it. Maybe, like myself, people feel like you have already cancelled it. Maybe if you hyped it and let people know that it is still on, they would watch.
