Late in the 2013-14 season, NBC and ABC launched three new Sunday night dramas — all with single word titles. NBC cancelled Crisis and Believe while ABC renewed Resurrection for a second season. In retrospect, was that a good decision for the alphabet network? Should Resurrection have been cancelled as well?
On Resurrection, a small town in Missouri is turned upside down when long-dead loved ones return after 30 years. The cast includes Omar Epps, Frances Fisher, Matt Craven, Devin Kelley, Mark Hildreth, Samaire Armstrong, Sam Hazeldine, Landon Gimenez, and Kurtwood Smith.
Debuting on March 9th, Resurrection had a great launch with a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 13.9 million total viewers. (Those numbers are about the same as this season’s How to Get Away with Murder’s debut.)
Unfortunately, Resurrection’s ratings dropped about 19% in week two and they kept falling nearly every week of the eight episode season. The seventh installment hit a low of a 1.9 rating with 7.85 million — half of the premiere’s demo rating.

Considering the poor luck that the alphabet network had last year launching new dramas, it wasn’t much of a surprise that ABC renewed Resurrection. They didn’t have much choice. However, the ratings slide was a terrible sign for the future.
Now, the show has been really struggling in season two. After a positive second season debut, the ratings quickly dropped, falling to new series lows week after week. The October 26th installment registered a mere 1.2 rating with 4.36 million.
ABC recently ordered full seasons and additional episodes of many of their new and older shows. It was a telling sign that the network is only producing 14 episodes of Resurrection this season.
Unless the ratings improve, it looks very likely that Resurrection will be cancelled by May. Hopefully, the writers will give viewers some degree of closure before the end.
What do you think? Did you stop watching Resurrection? Should it have been a mini-series? Is competition from The Walking Dead and football the cause of the low ratings? Do you think Resurrection should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
It’s sad that people want something easy, what ever happened to suspensEverything is pop now in days
Just found out about this show a few months ago. Been enjoying it ever since. Perhaps the show should come on Wednesdays or Fridays. But please keep it on 🙂
We LOVE this show and look forward to it every week. Please please please find a place for it. It doesn’t help to preempt it now for two weeks in a row. This is a quality, well acted show and it deserves to find a place where its ratings can match the quality. We would watch it no matter what night it was on.
I really like and enjoy the show as do many co-workers and friends. Please don’t cancel it as our job requires us to work evenings except for Sundays and many people can’t watch it on demand or DVR it. At work it is always the topic of discussion each Monday. Twenty somethings and people who are in their sixties are discussing the show together. The younger people actually talk and leave their phone alone, very heartwarming to see.
I love this show and hope it continues. Been looking for the show the last two weeks and am sick to death with NBC
WTF we love the show , at least end the story and not like Cold Mountain please
Our family loves this show, and look forward to Sunday nights to watch it. I think with the subject matter, it would probably work better as a miniseries, but we love the characters. Please give the show some better writers and direction, and see it through to a satisfying conclusion, even if it means changing the date and time slot.
Thank you very much.
My wife and I enjoy this show, and certainly hope that it continues
It is a terrible show. Putting it in the middle of Once Upon A Time and Revenge looks like ABC was forcing it down our throats. It still can’t make it. Cancel it now !
Please do not cancel Resurrection. I love this show. Just put it on a Tuesday or Saturday. Whoever said that nothing is on Thursday is CRAZY! That’s my TV night for ABC.
Watched the pilot. Kind of interesting but just way too slow. I can see Walking Dead taking a big chunk of their potential audience.
Please do not cancel this show… I love it… My husband has been watching it from Japan and I wait until he is able to watch so we can discuss it… We are really enjoying this show and were eagerly awaiting season 2… So any talks of canceling should be put to rest… Maybe you should have the cast out promoting how awesome this show is to get more viewers!!!
my whole family watches this together every week on demand as we can not watch on the day it is on do not cancel pleasessssssssssss
I LOVE this show. Please don’t cancel it. There are so many of us who like watching a good mystery story…Perhaps it should move to another night?
It’s a good show. Keep it . My family really liked Believe as well . The ratings are down only because it comes on at the same time as other popular shows such as the walking dead . I dvr it so I can watch both shows. Change the time or play on a different day of the week. And bring back Believe as well! Maybe Thursdays….nothing good ever comes on then.
