Jason Katims captured hearts and minds with his high school football drama, Friday Night Lights. Meanwhile, as a producer of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway smash, Hamilton, Jeffrey Seller knows a thing or two about compelling theater. Together, they’ve created NBC’s new Rise TV show, based on Michael Sokolov’s book, Drama High about Lou Volpe’s acclaimed theater program at Harry S. Truman High School in Bucks County, PA. Does the first season have what it takes to leave the audience wanting more? Will Rise be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.
A high school drama, Rise stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Damon J. Gillespie, Marley Shelton, Rarmian Newton, Ted Sutherland, Amy Forsyth, Casey W. Johnson, Taylor Richardson, Joe Tippett, and Shirley Rumierk. The NBC TV series centers on Lou Mazzuchelli (Radnor), who is the fictional analogue to Volpe. Although he is committed to his students at Stanton High School, Lou knows he needs to shake things up, in order to rekindle his passion for teaching. To that end, he petitions to direct the school’s theater program, but soon realizes he signed up for a whole lot more than he originally expected. Soon the faculty, student body, and even the town residents will find themselves caught up in the new spirit at the school.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/16/18 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Rise TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on NBC?
5/11/18 update: NBC has cancelled Rise so there won’t be a second season. Details here.
I love, love this show. I cannot believe it is cancelled. This show could have been another This is Us. I hope another station picks this up. This is far better than some of the shows that were renewed. Perhaps the fact it has been competing against the NBA play off games could be one issue. Please don’t cancel!!!!
Just finished watching the “Rise” season finale. What an absolutely amazing show! Everyone involved is so incredibly talented! The show makes me laugh, it makes me cry, it makes me not want to “cave”. Please don’t cave NBC. Give this gem the chance to live and teach us all a whole lot about life.
Please do not cancel this show!! It’s remarkable! The cast is phenomenal too!!! Please reconsider!!
I’m disappointed to think that Rise will be cancelled. I have really enjoyed the show and the finale was fantastic. I was hoping the play would be switched back to the original plan and it was – phenominal.
Love. Love. Love this show so sad it’s being canceled. I really enjoyed the show, please reconsider!
Please do not cancel Rise. It is one of the best shows on TV – great music – great acting – it is what life is today – it would be a shame to cancel it.
RISE is one of the best shows on TV. Huge fan I am all in the storylines are fabulous any age group can relate to them. Season 2, yes, NBC get with the program and please renew RISE!! What an amazing cast!!
An amazing show. Absolutely LOVE it and really hope they renew it for another season.
It’s a shame that so many initial viewers gave up on “Rise” after the fist couple of weeks. Initially it was too much, too many characters to feel drawn to any of them, and the theme was too much like a watered- down “Glee.” I say it was a shame that many gave up on the show because I’ve stuck with it and it has gotten so much better as it’s gone along. It’s reached the point where I know the various characters and care about them, and I find myself emotionally drawn into the storylines and situations. It started… Read more »
I want to like RISE…every episode has moments that really move me..that work…but as a GLEE SMASH fan…this is just too formulaic, too cliche, to unreal….there are moments of greatness wrapped in pablum…and sorry Josh but you’re just not inspiring….Rosie is!! I truly want it to do better. Not being mean…but as a performer myself….this is just….been done.
I absolutely LOVED Rise…..There will be a lot of unanswered questions that the viewership needs to hear the answers to…..I Loved all the characters…..and I think it really needs to be renewed…..This show has made my dull Tuesdays shine again…..Thank You for this show…..
Rise is one of the reasons I look forward to Tuesday nights. As a parent of adult children, I think this show shows us the parents how to deal with certain issues and also opens our eyes to see through their children eyes as they grow to become young adults. I do hope NBC bring back it back for a 2nd season and more.
I LOVE this show RISE!!! I’m so happy I found this show. It has so many dynamics that actual high school kids can relate to. If only it were promoted more. I DEFINITELY think NBC should give RISE a second chance! Please! I’m BEGGING YOU!
I Absolutely Loved it too…..We do need for it to be renewed for at least 2 more years……and then some…..
I love Rise!! The cast is fantastic and I love the story lines! The music and singing are beautiful! I even downloaded the soundtrack to “Spring Awakening” from AppleMusic! Simply wonderful!!
I love the show and it is one of my favorite tv shows I look forward to watching every Tuesday night. Please don’t get rid of it. Please renew it for season 2 and beyond. After the show Iis over I want it to be Tuesday again to watch the next one!
