TV show description:
This police drama is based on the Rizzoli/Isles series of novels by Tess Gerritsen. The series revolves around a police detective and a medical examiner who, although they’re complete opposites, combine their talents to solve crimes in Boston.
Detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) has the mindset that the criminals she’s chasing are monsters. As a younger girl, with a housewife mom and plumber dad, she saw a police officer on career day at school and decided that was the job for her. She wanted the gun, the badge, and mostly the respect. She worked her way up from a beat patrolman to detective in vice and narcotics, then finally to the homicide unit. Her philosophy in tracking down the criminals is to make it personal — get angry and never give up.
By contrast, it wasn’t until her adult years that Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) figured out she wanted to become a forensic pathologist. She always knew she was different than the other kids and would hide in her room reading and dissecting dead mice. Aside from being a scholar, she was also an accomplished pianist and honor student. All of this led her to student medicine but, after medical school, she realized she wasn’t good at the emotions needed for treating living patients and switched to forensics.
Maura knows she doesn’t have much in common with the police she works with and knows that they call her “Queen of the Dead” behind her back. This includes Jane’s former and present partners. Jane’s former partner, Detective Vince Korsak (Bruce McGill), is very much her mentor. Korsak has always treated her like a daughter, and doesn’t get along well with her new partner, Detective Barry Frost (Lee Thompson Young). He’s great when it comes to anything that deals with technology, but gets sick at the sight of blood. Still, he’s just as loyal to Jane as Korsak.
Also very loyal is Angela Rizzoli (Lorraine Bracco), Jane’s mom. She’s the epitome of an Italian mother — somewhat overbearing and very protective of her cubs. She claims to have not slept since Jane became a cop and wishes she’d be a little more feminine. She’s not the only one in the family to feel this way about her, as her little brother Frankie (Jordan Bridges) feels very protective of his big sis. He’s trying to make his way up the police force ladder so also feels like he’s a little in her shadow.

Good shows are always taken off the air too soon! It would be different if good shows are put in there place: but what we usually get is crap or some substandard poorly develop show. I will miss this show greatly!
EVERY TIME THERE IS A GOOD SERIES THEY ALWAYS GET CANCELED. IT STICKS. WATCH THEY ARE GOING TO PUT ON SOME CRAPPY SHOW LIKE ALWAYS. THANKS A LOT. NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!!!!!!
I read where it was economically the right time to cancel, why does it always have to be about money why can’t it just be left on for the people that enjoy it. The people watching is what makes work or it wouldn’t make it past one season.
I have to add to my other comment. I read where the boss said it was economically the right time to cancel, why does it always have to be about money why can’t it just be left on for the people that enjoy it. The people watching is what makes work or it wouldn’t make it past one season.
This is just typical of networks….get a good audience and following then cancel the series. It just sucks.
This is just a shame. There are so few shows that are truly enjoyable with a situation that is resolved at the end of the show instead of “hanging on until next week”. TNT is just shooting itself in the foot cancelling great programming in favor of the mindless twits of reality shows. Come on TNT step up and show your viewers that you’ll stand up and give them programming for the thinking watchers.
There are few choices on TV that are not “reality” shows. It is one show I watch with my husband and teen grandchildren.
Pretty soon there is not going to be anything on TV worth watching, all the goods ones are being taken off and replaced with not so good. Rizzoli & Isles is one of the most enjoyable shows to watch they are a good team and family. I can see NO good reason to take it off. You should really re think your decision to cancel!!!!!

How truly disappointing that TNT has decided to cancel this show. It is one of the only shows I watch. That characters work so well together and its do much more lighthearted than most other cop shows without losing anything. Really crummy decision TNT!
I think it really sucks that TNT comes up with a truly great show and now we see it is going to be cancelled. I agree with Patricia Guzman’s comment that it is one the very best cop shows available. Please do not cancel it.
I love this show. Please don’t cancel it. You have a fantastic show here with a great cast why in the world is it being cancelled.
PLEASE DO NOT CANCELL I would and have watch this show over any other show that is on TV. And I am disabled and I watch TV all day and night pretty much and this is the best cop show on TV PLEASE DON’T CANCELL
I love this show and all the actors in it. I look forward to seeing this every Tuesday night. PLEASE DO NOT CANCELE this show!!!!!!! I have read all 11 books plus 2 short stories . That should be enough for lots and lots and lots of shows!!!!!!
I Love this show..I can’t wait for each and every season…Watched every episode from the beginning. I love the entire cast and how they work so well together… Why would it be canceled, as I see so many love the show too.
